Have 'searched' but cannot find a specific topic about the itouch.
I have a brand new shiny itouch (4Gen) and downloaded the Tom Tom app, which seemed to be 'on offer'.
Only having an Garmin i3, there seems to be a great improvement - but what do I know.
Naturally I am searching for info on getting the PGPS speed cameras and personal POIS onto it.
I note topics etc regarding the iphone apps/downloads.
But do they ALL apply to the itouch? _________________ Ian Dee,

Adding POI files to the Apple devices used to involve jail breaking them until recently, whilst I appreciate the link will take you to a page detailing how to install the PGPSW camera database to the iPhone I would expect the same to work with your hardware.
For the addition of other third party POI files if its got the Retina display then icons are best sized 44x44 rather than the more usual 22x22 but other than this follow the guide and treat the POI files in the same way as the camera POI files - Mike |

Oh dear, thanks for that Mike, I think
I have trouble getting the speed camera database downloaded to my garmin, so this may be a bit beyond me - oggs & ovs.
I will 'peruse at my leisure' and investigate further.
I did venture out last night with the itouch and tom tom app and noticed just the bongs and no pics of speed camers - but then I realised that its the Tom Tom preloaded speed cameras ; must admit I did not know they were on the app. How do they/do they get updated by TomTom? _________________ Ian Dee,

Assuming you have a GPS equipped cradle of sorts then why not use our CamerAlert app? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I assumed that would also have to be similar to Mikes instructions above _________________ Ian Dee,

No? Our CamerAlert App is a dedicated iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch SpeedCamera Alert. It downloads the data in the app and requires no fiddling other than setting your preferences.

Thanks Darren
My how glad I am that this is the Beginners forum.
I have looked at the link and there are so many questions that I dont know where to start
First off - Camera Alert - is it distinctly different from the Camera Speed Data base?
The link is an apple web site, reference is made to their app costiong 59p but then goes on to say registered subscribers .. I have no problem with 59p but assumed I could download from the PGPS site?
It talks about maps and shows examples- what happens to the TomTom maps/app I bought.
Sorry about this, I am sure I have missed something somewhere. _________________ Ian Dee,

Cameralert is an app written by PGPSW and sold via the app store. If you have a subscription pay for the app, download and install. Follow the instructions and enter your subscription details. The app runs on the iPhone and you can download the database into it. It uses the Google maps to display the location of cameras and uses voice alerts too. You can turn either off if you wish so you can have voice alerts with or without the map. To use it with the TomTom or any GPS app you run it in the background and use the voice alerts. It does not integrate with any other app so does not affect any GPS app. At 59p it's worth trying it if you have a subscription already. |

CamerAlert is a Speed Camera Alert application for iPhone. It uses our Speed Camera database.

You can. You pay for the application and then enter your user-name/password in the app to access our database and download.

CamerAlert uses Google Maps to show speed camera locations. It does not affect any other application you may have installed.
You can use CamerAlert as a standalone app to provide warnings or you can run it in the background with TomTom (or any other navigation app) running in the foreground. In this state it will still provide you with audio alerts whilst your chosen navigation app is active. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for your help, but just need to mention again that I am talking about itouch not iPhone.
I have now bought the 59p app and as I am already a subscriber registered and downloaded the CameraAlert.
I am aware that I cannot use the
map but that the CameraAlert in List view works in the background
and Will give voice warnings of cameras etc.
I am also aware that CameraAlert needs a GPS signal on the itouch.
So, firing up the TomTom,getting a Gps signal, eventually, expected to start receiving the warnings. However there is no indication that CameraAlert is working/ getting a signal. The red icon, when I go to map view, is always red not blue.
Is there anything that I have forgotten to do? _________________ Ian Dee,

Check iPhone | Settings | General | Location Services and ensure CamerAlert is set to 'ON'.
I'm assuming is is installed in the cradle AND the cradle has 12v power? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Darren hi
Not iphone. iTOUCH
I was not aware if the
Settings | General | Location Services and ensure CamerAlert was set to 'ON' at the time. , but its a good point to check when next trying, thanks.
At the time it was in the Magellan gps cradle and plugged into the cars cig lighter socket. _________________ Ian Dee,

Yes, fully aware if that (although there is no such thing as an iTouch, it's an iPod Touch

You can check this easily enough, I'm not clear on whether Location Services options appear on an iPod Touch when no GPS cradle is present, do you have it to hand to see? If they are only present when a GPS is connected you should be able to power the Magellan cradle from a laptop using a USB cable. _________________ Darren Griffin |
