Until this week Ive been using TT2 and Mapopolis with Belkin BT CF card and Ipaq 3850 working OK.I then installed a TDK BT jacket to try and free up my CF slot for more maps. That didnt work at all(its RMA time) so I went back to the 1st setup.
Now there is no com port connection at all.The clip on is locked on,BT comms working but no-ones at home! Mapopolis stalls at com port checking and Winfast navigator cant open Com port 8. My Pretec CF card works fine.
The question is..is it time for a hard reset of the 3850?

Maybe. I have to say that although it's a bit of a pain, a hard reset every once in a while is no bad thing, it gets rid of all those dormant registry entries and files from long since uninstalled apps and gives you an opportunity to reorganise.

Anyways, you haven't installed a newer TT GPS Driver since this began have you?

It's possible that the failed attempt to switch to the TDK hardware has left some garbage in the registry.

I agree, too, with Darren - a hard reset once in a while is no bad thing. I think you're just going to have to hard reset and set things up again. Don't forget to synchronise all your data with Outlook and make a copy of your My Documents folder before you hard reset.

just a little update which may be useful to others.I did a hard reset, updated the ROM but still no success with either the TDK BT jacket or The belkin BT CF card. Then something clicked that I had read on these forums before...I set the Fortuna to XT mode and bingo!! success.Switched back to normal and I have full GPS connection for all my applications!
Youre right, hard reset and ROM update have also improved the performance of the Ipaq 3850.

thanks to all

Laurence
