I think some issues are also caused by the programs poor guidance.

As part of the install procedure it seems to reboot your tomtom to clear your old map.

At this point the PC app says interrupted when it should just says "please wait, don't touch or the equivalent" as after the tomtom has booted up again, now with no maps, the process of installing the new maps actually starts.

An hour or so later it should be done.

Indeed, prevent pc from going to sleep and use a usb port on the PC as the device will need full power for over an hour.

If you see any error messages in MyTomTom or the TT just says "no maps" then unplug the TT device cable, wait a few seconds and replug it. Keep repeating this until the download-to-device process starts (spinning indicator)
The transfer took about 80m
Do not kill the MyTomTom process or you'll have to download the maps from TT all over again!

With all this plugging & unplugging I would've thought there'd be a good chance of file damage or memory corruption on the sat nav but with no way of scanning / fixing the device where does that leave us??

Remember it isn't being connected as a "mass storage device" but as a network adapter, so the 'rules' may well be different.

TT told me they had gone to great lengths to make "connecting or disconnecting when the device is on, as resilient as possible".

I hope their 'lengths' are better than those they took to make sure 'Petrol Prices' are accurate Rolling Eyes Shocked

Anybody getting the offer of a new update on their Go Live 1000?

I took out the map update offer of the 18 months for the price of 12 months some weeks ago and now am being offered UK map version 675.1409 despite currently having v865.3243 on my device?

Needless to say I won't be doing the update presently and am hoping its a typo that should read 875?

And I thought it wasn't due for a couple of weeks....

Looks like some kind of anomaly on my system then, been asked to clear the cache by TT support on mytomtom as well as some local folders on my pc but it's still being offered so i'll leave well alone.

Have you by any chance used the same email address as your account name for this unit as you had for a previous one?

That can often cause Home to re-offer ancient maps that had been bought for the old machine.

Yes I did Andy on an old TT One. Kind of ties in with the latest support solution to create a new windows account which I can't be bothered with so I'll just avoid the download.

My 1005 is also offering to download for me map 675.1409 for Go700 and 910.

The only device on this account is my 1005 but once I did have a 910 I think (hard drive model with USA).

I guess installing this map would be a mistake Smile

BTW, Clean install of TT S/W on reinstall of Windows 7 so no old local data and their website said "TomTom GO LIVE 1005 New items are available" before I had even installed the software.

They definitely seem to be keeping centralised records of every unit's serial number and what updates have been offered or sent to it.
So the TT website knows what's on the device and whether it needs updating without even connecting it.
