Hi - Has anyone seen the Nuvi 1490 TV (essentially a 1490 but with TV function using DVB-T) which has the ability to receive Freeview TV signals?? The Garmin blurb states that the TV can only be watched when the vehicle is stationary but I am wondering what the quality of the picture / reception is like on the 5'' screen. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.70

Yes I have one courtesy of Pocket GPS,have not tried out the TV function yet as the area I am in does not "switch over" untill later in the year.
As for the 1490 a good unit if all the functions worked as they should, _________________ Square2024

Been using mine since august no problems so far
Normal digi tv rules apply but by moveing aerials around you can normally get something.
As usual the Satnav is Garmin so it dous what is says it will on the box.

And forget any hope of receiving a signal using the supplied antenna in most parts of the country.
Until we go fully digital and switch off the analogue transmitters, the signal power is just too low for reliable reception using the mobile antenna. _________________ Darren Griffin - Editor |

Cheers!! I've got a 1000 live, but I have been looking at this model. I have used garmin products before and found them really good, so as this unit is a satnav and comes with traffic updates (fm) for life, and as a video input so I can plug in a reversing camera and as the possibility of watching TV.
Oh! I would like to use the ecoRoute hd lead and software too, so I can read faults and look at live info from the engine, not a full blown diagnostic reader but having an option to read fault codes is quite good! |

yes - the reversing camera is something I'm quite keen on, but when I asked Navigon, who also have a TV option, they said that it wouldn't work with a camera (presumably because they use a proprietary signal format from the TV receiver to the satnav, rather than a standard video format). Presumably the Garmin DOES use a standard format input port the
EDIT - just seen on the Garmin website that it DOES support camera input - interesting! _________________ David

Yes I was looking at the possibility of fitting a rear camera but didn't want a screen up front cluttering the dash but on another forum I saw that the garmin 1490tv does have the input for a camera. I don't think the 1490t has the input just the 1490tv version! Just wanted to ask here how the satnav is, and if someone had used the ecoRoute hd option. |
