Mapopolis has opened the early beta-test period for Palm OS-5 devices to any interested party. This prototype of the 1.30 beta version delivers full-screen support for the Tungsten-T3 and Tapwave Zodiac.

On the T3, both portrait and landscape modes are supported, as well as the "handedness" feature of the T3. On the Tapwave, hardware acceleration features are utilized and the interface is similar to the T3 and Sony Clie UX-50 (already shipping). No registration is required to participate in this beta-test. Interested owners of these model should come to Mapopolis and read the release information on the page under Download App and Palm OS-5 PDA. The link to download the beta-test version will be found there.

Fully gps-enabled and functional trial maps are available for Western Europe, Canada, and the United States. These are found under the Online Maps and Demo links.

Sonds great - I have just bought a T3 and have been trying to decide beteen Navman and TT3. It would seem that Mapopolis might offer a better (?) and certainly cheaper sollution.

However, I still need a GPS receiver - is there any particular one that you (or anyone else) would recommend - Whilst I do not want too many cables littering the car I am somewaht put off the Bluetooth sollution by other peoples comments.

Cheers
