There's mention in this article of the Avon and Somerset scheme. Of particular note is this -
"Anyone clocked by a neighbourhood volunteer is in line for a letter and eventually a stern ticking off by the police. But not points – unless they happen to live in Avon and Somerset. There, police officers occasionally accompany volunteers on their rounds, and if you are clocked speeding when a police officer is present, then points or prosecution could follow." |

Ah, but how do you know that a Police Officer was present?
If you were clocked then it is assumed that you did not see the camera (or why did you not slow down). If you did not see the camera then you wont have seen a Police Officer, I am not suggesting that they would lie, but if they are underhanded enough to hide behind hedges (a friend told me that this is how his neighbor, who is one of the volunteers, works) then they would not be above other underhanded tricks. |

You ask them, when you ask for the evidence of the alleged speeding offence and the calibration certificates, for proof that it was witnessed and carried out by a trained police officer with the relevant power to hand out NIP's.
If they can't then you contest it in court.

You wouldn't. It's just FUD spreading to scare people.

M8TJT is quite right, I had not considered the sneaky lot hiding around a corner. Stupid of me, of course they don't want you to see them, or you would slow down, and then you would be driving within the limit, and they would be down £60.
But it is all about safety, not money. Isn't it? |
