|
|
I have just had to restore my reserve TT 520 device back to an earlier time because of something silly I did that probably corrupted it.
Restored my backup everything is fine but when updating from TT it no longer offers me an update of GPS fixes.
This was something that never worked before and was corrected after a little tweak from advice given on here, obviously my restoration has taken me back beyond that time. I have searched the forum to try and find the solution but failed that intelligence test as well.
So how can I make the update GPS fixes work again?
I promise that when I get the answer and fix it I will backup again so that my latest backup will have the fix included. meantime I will smack my hand. |

Use Explorer to delete everything in the ephem folder on the unit.
Then go here:
c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\ephemeris\
and delete any subfolders found there.
Connect to Home and a new gpsquickfix file should be offered. _________________ David |

Many thanks dhn job done and all working again.
The only small problem was that the ephem folder was not on the device, so as I did backup what I thought may have been a corrupted device, before restoring to an earlier time I restored that one then followed your advice and hey presto it all works again.
What it must be like to have a memory that works properly again as it did before. Some people advise writing all these things down but then you cant remember where you wrote them.
I will now do another backup. |

Just create a notepad text file(on your pc in the TT folder). Then copy and paste the forum thread(s) with a comment into it. You can then just paste them back into explorer when on the forum and see what replies you got to your problems. |

Pocketgps that's a good idea and I will do that after I have posted this.
Thinking about the problem when everything was working A OK again I looked at the backup I had restored to double check there was no ephem file within it and found it and many other folders were missing, so it was probably a corrupted backup for some strange reason.
Another note I will put in my memory jogger is just check that a backup seems to have as many folders and files in it that are on the device and that it compares favourably to previous backups.
In fact I will just copy and paste this response.
This seems to be a very productive day what can I screw up/fix next I wonder. |

Easier still, Just bookmark the appropriate thread & edit the bookmark properties to reflect the subject of the tread |

What we need is some way to do regular Windows Explorer backups of our brains. |

A Microsoft backup of our brains, that could/would be dodgy |

A backup using TomTom Home would be far more than dodgy - Mike |
