I have a Medion PPC200 with the RoyalTak RGM2000 Antenna from Aldi and as I required street level maps for europe I purchased the Navman SmartST software.

The problem is, now i can't get a GPS signal...

I've uninstalled the medion nav software (which worked fine)
carried out a hard reset
set smartST to comm1 at 4800.

It either says "waiting for GPS" or "no GPS signal"

What am I doing wrong?

Please help.

Steve.

I've tried all comm port / baud rate combinations with a soft reset in between.

I've sent emails to royaltek and navman (does anybody have a technical support line number?) but up to now no response. And nobody has answered my post here. Sad yet.

Is there somebody who has the medion and used different software who has some advise for me?

I'm desperate as I leave on Thursday for trip which last until September.

If it's not compatible will spotlight ltd refund me for the software?

Please help. I think this forum is my only hope.

I still can't get it with any settings. One difference I've seen is when I use NMEA 0183v2 4800 com1 it say's "waiting GPS" rather than "no GPS". This according to the manual means a connection is established with the receiver but no signal is being received. No bars appear on the graph and it is in an area that normally picks up 5 - 8 sats. I even went for a drive to see if would help but I had no joy.

globalpositioningsystems.co.uk help line are currently looking into it for me and have promised me answer by midday Monday. If they can't fix it I'll have to send SmartST back and buy the Ipaq 4150/2210 with the navman 4410.

This could become expensive Confused

Have you got a car with a heated windscreen - I've read here that these can block the signal - just try it in your driveway & put the module on the roof if you're not sure.

The main thing that blocks GPS signals is a UV coated windscreen. A heated windscreen with a heater coil running through it will only dampen GPS signals if the coil is powered and the heater on the windscreen is set to de-mist.

When you used the Medion software did you notice what comm port settings *it* was using?

Tech Support at Navman is 01293 780500.

The Medion bundled Royaltek GPS comes with the GSA and RMC sentences switched off which many apps require.

If you use a utilty such as Winfast Navigator you can check this, if they are disabled then enable them. Winfast is available here.

Download the application, unzip the file to a directory on your desktop and follow the steps to install.

Connect your GPS antenna to your PDA and make sure you can receive data! (Without the antenna connected you will not be able to change the settings!). Switch on your PDA.

Start WinFast Navigator, Go to the menu Tools/Port Setting. For the Medion 40600 PDA + RGM-2000 mouse the settings should be like:

GPS Protocol = NMEA
Port = Serial COM1
BaudRate = 4800
Select OK

Now go to the menu View/Development. A blank screen will appear and soon you will start receiving NMEA messages (with the standard settings, you will probably only see the GGA and GSV messages)

Now it becomes time to change the factory settings. Go to the menu Tools/Command and set next settings:
GGA=1, GLL=0, GSA=5, GSV=5, RMC=1, VTG=1, MSS=0, User=0, User=0, User=0

Select OK

Now go back to the menu View/Development (see step 6). This time you will receive the NMEA messages GGA, GSV, GSA and RMC. Exit the WinFast Navigation program. If you followed all above steps, your other navigation software should now successfully work!

Wow thanks Darren. I've been racking my brains with this for about 2 weeks now. For some reason winfast and many other programs don't work on my Bluemedia PNA but I managed to use the inbuilt GPS monitor to change the settings which only took me about 2 mins using your instructions Laughing 8) :D

Since I accidentally switched it on and let the battery run flat the TomTom 5 on my MICROMAXX MDPPC 150 cant find a GPS signal. What can I do?

I have done a SOFT-RESET and a HARD-RESET

My settings are Baud 4800, Other NMEA Device, Serial2 Com 1.

I have Winfast Navigator installed and have tried the following two settings (as recommended in different posts):-

GGA 1, VTG 1, GLL 2, MSS 2 GSA 5, GSV 5, RMC 1 and
GGA 1, VTG 1, GLL 0, MSS 0 GSA 5, GSV 5, RMC 1

Winfast Navigator seems to be picking up 4 or 5 satellites but when I exit it and check how many satellites TomTom is reading the answer is zero.

I have left the device in the garden to get a clear signal for over an hour on several occassions and TomTom is still not finding a satellite.

What do I do now? Help please.
