I second that. However, on my Desire HD the scrolling in Map mode is jerky. All other Nav apps with live position update scroll smoothly. Just saying

when you say scrolling do you mean the reaction to your finger caressing the screen, or the map movement while in motion?

I mean map movements while in motion, it seemed to be updating just under once per second.

Only used map mode for 30min commute to work this morning on A roads and Motorway. Ran CamerAlert + Google Nav on the way home.

Will try some more testing Saturday and will update here

yes, we only update the map once per GPS fix, and not at all if the map is not visible. We do whatever we can to save battery. Most of the time the app will run in the background anyway, no?

Lutz, thanks for your rapid response and clarification.

I fully accept your logic regarding update intervals v power saving.

You are also correct, in that, I will be running CamerAlert in the background most of the time.

hi Lutz,

That may explain a few problems for yesterday travelling M4 where the map appeared jerky and part blank sometimes.
of course this maybe due to the 70mph and poor 3G signal as well, I'm sure thats a factor.

But on quite a few occasions, a quick few I can think of,
55369 no visual or audible warning only icon.
71185, no icon , no audible, no visual.
Also the M25 stretch between M40 to M4, only one of the variable speed cameras was picked up.

I have just installed the updated version and redownloaded the camera app in case there was a fault there.
As said in a earlier post when I downloaded on the 20th there were problems with connecting to the server.

I will check them all again on my return journey.

Cheers, Bob

edit by me.

running the unit off car charger all the way, battery was only showing 3/4 charge at the end of it which I thought a little strange, it usually shows full charge.
Then again, I don't usually have gps/3g/google maps enabled all the time

I found this during testing in December. Running CamerAlert with no map, and the free Google navigation, the car charger would not keep the phone battery fully charged.
I put this down to using a generic car charger which seems to give less than the 1000ma the original car (and mains) chargers do.
Still waiting for the official HTC car kit to drop through the letterbox, so until then I can't report on whether this keeps the phone fully charged or not.

Same issue affects iPhone. With GPS running there is quite a significant drain on the battery. Cheaper generic chargers were not able to supply enough power to replenish the battery and so there was still drain.

Others could match the drain but not increase the charge level.

Now the better branded ones are all 2A and these can cope.

Ahhhhh,

I think I should be all right then, I paid 4.99 for the Tesco value multi charger.

I have tried various chargers, 5 so far I think and the only ones able to keep up with th drain when gps/3g, screen on etc are the two HTC versions.

Both are able to run and charge up to 100% while the phone is in use.

I may be able to find the model number if any one needs it but I think they only do 2.

One with a detachable usb lead and the other a captive lead coming out at an angle from the charger unit.
