I have recently raised this as a support question with TomTom. Any thoughts while I wait for an answer?
To obtain Traffic updates I need to keep the CF slot on my HP Journada available for a Bluetooth CF card so I installed a 16Mb map segment to the internal PDA memory. This works with the South West (SW) map and allowed the use of Traffic update via the BT card and GPRS.
Last night I deleted the SW map and installed the 16Mb London segement to PDA memory. Now when I try to run TTN3 I get the following message:
"No maps found, please install and activate an original TomTom Navigator 3 Map first"
Note: I have tried all methods using setup on the CD to install the map including:
1, Via Active Sync to PDA RAM
2, to HD then to 256 MB CF card in a Reader
3, to CF card in PDA via Active Sync then copy to PDA RAM
The SW map that works seem to have a couple of extra files in the directory such as *.mid and setup.dat The maps that wont load do not have these files.
A while ago I uninstalled the TTN3 Wizard as it was taking up valuable PDA RAM.
What do I need to do activate a new map?

I had a similar issue recently whilst trying to install a France map. I was not being prompted for the unlock key when installing the map and so consequently it was not activated (hence the missing files you have observed).
I'm afraid that my solution as I was in a rush and needed the map the next day was to uninstall TT and reinstall, doing so prompted for the unlock and the map was successfully registered and then accessible. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks Darren,
Come to think about it, on one pass through the setup it did ask for my Product Code and on another seperate occasion a box appeared asking if it was ok to go online and activate? the software. M
my PDA is not normally connected to the Internet. Does it need to be online to "aprove" the new map?
I fear that the unistall route is my only choice - again
Rgds

When installing a new map you should be prompted to go online to activate during the PC install routine. _________________ Darren Griffin |

O.K. panic over.
Operator error on my part
In error I was using the TTN2 setup CD to install the map segments :|
Thats why TTN3 told me to activate version 3 maps DOH !
Now off to a small dark place to hide.
Richard.
Still nothing heard from TomTom but I will go an cancel the support request. |
