We do not record dummies, those cameras that are on our database but which may be inactive are there because they can become 'active' at very short notice. They are rather different to a dummy camera.

We've no issue with anyone making suggestions but in this case it's a straightforward no to this particular idea. No offence taken and none meant Smile

That's exactly as I understood it to be Darren i.e. a camera that can be inactive one day but active the next warrants inclusion; a dummy camera definitely does not.

Are there? Do you know that for definite? Have you reported them as such? I for one would like to know....

I wish you would.
As a verifier, I spend quite a lot of time and petrol checking out reports that haven't following the usual camera reporting patterns. They are mostly mistaken.

Well, we do actually.... They are clearly shown on the submission map with a baby's dummy icon. They don't get distributed though.
I understand why you don't want to add them to the normal database download, but maybe they could be added by someone to the free community POIs?

That's exactly what I did. Not sure if mine is till up to date though.

Yes, that's what I meant Smile

I wouldn't have an issue with that.

50-100 cameras not active speed camera signs have grey paint over them.(M25 J31-J3 there are 10, A1 tuxford nb 1, + all the roadworks in the country not started but cameras up with signs saying cameras not in use). I have not reported them as they could become active anytime as said earlier post.

Like I said I don't always have time to look/remember camera locations to check using the website. Hence why I have always used Cameralert Maybe to save every ones time I should not report new camera locations/changes. Mad

That's not what I was suggesting at all...
I was talking about the specific issue of dummy cameras. It only takes a moment to check them on the submission map to see if they have already been logged.

But surely this is a little pointless if you have already reported them using Cameralert.
I wonder why we haven't spotted all these grey speed cams before. Shocked

I see two issues going on here. As someone who has used the M42 a lot, I can promise you you don't want to have an alert for every camera position (active or not). Your satnav would not shut up.

As with Andy, I've also got a POI category for the dummies which just show on the map so get the visual confirmation as I go past. Having this available as a POI category would be a good compromise.

The second issue is CamerAlert. Not having an iPhone I haven't kept up as much as others with it's development. I think this topic shows, however, that it would be good for that version to have some sort or indication included - especially if it's running in the background. Asking others to check the map on the site is reasonable but CA really works independently.

Just my 2p.

I don't see how CamerAlert differs from using the database on a Nav? Neither will alert for the dummy cams.

They aren't cameras and so we don't warn for them on ANY platform?

No other provider has an alert for dummies, I'm not suggesting that we lower our standards to the likes of Cyclops, Road-Angel etc but we have to draw a line between concise reports and overload.

We already get complaints that the service is overly complex and confusing.

M8TJT
I don't think there was any need for the sarcasm It shows lack of respect.

Thanks Andy, Mike and Darren For explaining the reasons behind the dummy cameras as to why they are not included in the database. After thinking about this you are correct Smile

OK guys, happy to discuss this at length but lets not have it go the way of other such threads and descend into bickering etc

Season of goodwill and all that eh?
