Map Transfer Nuvi 850

A general question from a not so wised up guy . I know I can create a route using map source and then transfer it to the device whilst the device is connected to my PC. However, can I undertake other functions whilst connected to a PC eg import the map source route from My Data to Routes? If so how is it done?

Well on my 255wt (and I guess all Garmins act this way) I connect my unit to the PC. I open Mapsource and press Transfer...Receive from Device.
Wait for the unit to be detected. Then I can select whether to receive waypoints, routes or tracks, or even all three categories.

They transfer across in an instant!
