pocketgpsworld.comWith Christmas on the horizon we have dropped the price of our speed camera subscription to £16.99, a £3 saving off our normal rate.

This is a special offer price which we hope will encourage those of you who have not yet done so to sign-up and see what you have been missing.

£16.99 will get you weekly updates, you can install on up to three satnavs (one of which can be an iPhone/iPad3G) and eligibility for our lifetime subscriber offer. Report a qualifying camera and you could win free updates for life. Full details here.

N.B. For existing subscribers who are coming up for renewal, if you are on a recurring payment subscription you will need to cancel with PayPal if you wish to take advantage of a renewal at the discounted price. Whilst PayPal protect you from price increases when using recurring payments, that also means that you would miss out on any price reduction offers so we're being as fair as possible in forewarning you all.

For information on how to cancel an existing recurring payment in PayPal, see here.

Thanks for the price drop Darren but I thought the database was free to subscribing members of the PGPSW site, does this herald a change in policy?

If you have a valid subscription then of course you still have access to the downloads, nothing has changed except the price!

If however, you have an existing subscription that is due to expire soon AND it is auto-renewing, then, unless you cancel the recurring payment, it will renew at the price you paid when you commenced your subscription.

This is a PayPal restriction. Recurring payments agreements lock you in at the price you pay when you start. This protects you from price rises but also excludes you from price discounts.

So if you want to take advantage of the discount, you need to cancel your recurring payment agreement with PayPal. This will only cancel the auto-renewal agreement and not affect any remaining subscription.

You can then renew manually at the discounted rate when your existing subscription expires.

Does that make sense?

Don't forget that the subscription also gives you access to the Premium POIs for low bridges etc.

I thought Darren had given a politician's answer (no offence intended).

I'm confused (not unusual Embarassed ). How soon is soon? My subscription expires at start of December. If I cancel the auto-renewal and subscribe at the special offer price now, will the new subscription take effect from December, or immediately?

It will take effect from when your current subscription expires.

That is what I was thinking as well. Mine runs out about the same time. Would I lose the month or so or would it be added to the new subscription, ie 1 old month left, new subscription for 12 months = 13 months? Or would the existing month be lost.

As I've explained, if you top up, it is tagged onto the end, you will not lose out.

I've also just had the first 'I renewed in September, will you be sending me a £3 refund' support ticket.'

Would they expect any other business to refund the difference if they'd bought an item two weeks prior to a price drop? Asda, Tesco, WH Smiths perhaps?

It's a special offer, it's unfortunate if anyone misses out but there will doubtless be people who bought only yesterday who have also missed out. That's the nature of special offers.

Considering how many speed traps ive managed to avoid since subscribing last month, anyone who hasnt subscribed is seriously asking for 3 points on their licence( if like me you have a tendency to speed a little on the odd occasion) if you dont then you dont need it, and if you can put your hand on your heart and swear you never speed, why are you here ??

So if you havent yet subscribed, get it now at the reduced rate and save your licence before it gets taken off you.
