But as we’re losing ad-revenue from this then why not make a donation towards website running costs?. Or you could disable your ad-blocker for this site. We think you’ll find our adverts are not overbearing!

No-one has ever claimed that TomTom is unique in having issues. We are simply pointing out what those issues are so a buyer goes in 'eyes open' and doesn't come back here in two weeks asking how they can install third party poi files.
Connoisseurs have avery important role in sales, they are the ones family and friends will ask for advice. And we aren't alone in our opinions here, that's a potential readership well in excess of 1 million across the German, French, British and North American community sites.
Should we sit back and say nowt or should we be letting potential buyers know what the shortcomings are? Unlike the glossies, we don't think three paragraphs and a glowing conclusion is a real review.
Oh and one more thing, no more Intinerary Planning or Fuel Prices. _________________ Darren Griffin

Of course this forum should make comments. But I can't recollect one positive comment ! There must be something ! Potential buyers (especially those new to GPS) also want to know what are the good points.
Clearly you guys know more about the end product than we do and may be you have been somehow gagged until now, but following the "launch party" I assume all the features (or lack of them) are now public knowledge.
When can we have a definitive (and unemotional) review?

I class that as an improvement as it never worked correctly in the UK on any earlier devices, inaccurate locations (due to poor built in POI data) and prices that haven't been seen at the pumps for years! - Mike

I am sure some will move away from Tom Tom (actually I’m not because of HD Traffic) and will find all the other brands are full of similar issues. Look at the Garmin 37xx thread !
Indeed they will, as for the 3790T I have recently purchased I have to say I am more than happy with it, no real issues it just works, switching to Garmin after some five years using TomTom products wasn't just because of the Go-1000 and its restricted access but a much larger picture including broken Navcore releases, incorrect maps some errors creeping in, due I am sure to inaccurate use of Map Share, after five years the Go-1000 was the final nail in the coffin as far as I am concerned.
To anyone who wants a Go-1000 all well a good and I hope you enjoy using the product, I would go and try one in a retailers though prior to any purchase - Mike

Indeed so, and when we have the retail unit we will review it and tell all.
It's all rather annoying because TT are moaning that we are making comments based on a pre-production devices despite web-sites such as Pocket-Lint being allowed to publish a full 'review' (if you can call it that) of just such a device.
When we queried this, TT apologised and told us we were free to speak. When we did, they complained that we did not have a retail device. We can't win!
As for positive, I've said the mount is great, the faster route calc is good, not as fast as was claimed but definitely better, and the fact that it performs full route re-calc if you detour rather than simply navigating you back on to the planned route is welcome.
But that really is about it. It has lost a lot more than it has added which I'm sure you will agree is bizarre in an upgraded range?

Th launch party was my error. I got the invite to an event, a day before the planned release date for the GO 1000 and made the mistake of assuming it was for the new products. It wasn't. It was to launch their new HD Traffic Manifesto, their aim to reduce traffic congestion for all etc etc.

As soon as we have been given access to a retail spec device and had opportunity to use it. I'd hope our actual reviews are factual and not emotional _________________ Darren Griffin
Indeed. One can only hope that they are removing things so that they can launch a great new high end product later and charge more for it. I use intineraries quite often, so a device without it is not for me.
