I have backed up my device using the "tar cvzf ..." command from the command line on my Mac. I'm pretty sure this should be OK and will catch all the required files but I'm having a crisis of confidence.

Does anyone know if I'm doomed to failure if I try to restore using the "tar xvzf ..." command?

I'm not in a position to need this at the moment, but if it's not going to work I need to get a better backup in place before I do.

Cheers,

Dave.

Dave,

Assuming you've created your 'tar' backup from the correct directory and included all the files and subdirectories then you should be fine, although I find it easier just to 'drag and drop' between two Finder windows when doing device backups to my Mac.

All I do is create a new file on my dektop [GO530 Month/year/copy number], connect the TT to computer [registers as a drive called 'internal'], close down Home if necessary. Click internal and opens to show files, go to edit/select all/copy all. Click on new file and go to edit/paste x items, and you have a copy.

You can create a satnav file to store all your TT copies in.

OK, Cheers.

Sounds like I can stop worrying. I may take a copy via finder too .. just to be sure Smile .
