I an thinking of getting a 550live.
I am trying to find out if it gives a sound
so you know when you have gone over the
speed limit .
And when my 1 year free HD traffic runs out will it run using TMC.
I need the bluetooth that this has .Are there any other sat navs that I should consider.
Also How much better is the saftey camera by pgpsw.
Sorry for the questions but have never owned a sat nav before.

Yes you can configured an audible alert if you exceed the limit albeit the data on speed limits isn't always accurate.

Yes but you would need to purchase the TMC antenna.

That depends a lot on what you need, the 550 is a reasonably good device.

Well I'd naturally say it's a lot better but you'll find many others here who use our data and will agree!

No need to apologise, that is exactly what forums are for Smile

Darren has covered all the main bases, but just to add a little to what's already been said.
The overspeed warnings are
1. a visual alert (a red box appears around your speed on screen) This always happens
2. an optional audio alert. By default this is a "bong" type sound effect, but you can change it to another or add your own warning - voice or sound.

The above are both referenced to "speed for this road" data buried in the map, which as Darren says can sometimes be wrong or is often missing. You CAN however, correct or add the data yourself using TomTom's "Mapshare" correction system.

There is also an option for "Warn when going faster then a set speed" which you can set to one specific speed of your own preference.

As for the RDS-TMC receiver, there has been some confusion over which specific RDS-TMC receivers will work with the 550.

I THINK that the only receiver that works with the x50 models is the "Active Dock TRAFFIC with iPod support" (see HERE. The cable mounted receivers (see HERE from previous models (even the x40 range which is near-identical hardware) don't work or at least are "not supported".

However, there has been some discussion about this and TomTom themselves got in a complete muddle over it, both from their support staff and their on-line compatibility table.
One topic about it on another forum is HERE.
