With my speed camera warning sound what is an easy way of modifing it so that it plays for about three seconds. Or does anyone know where I can get a long or approx 3 second warning sound. Thanks.

What cameras are you using the ones from TomTom or the ones from here?

Whichever cameras, you must be using the bings and bongs and cowbells etc supplied free of charge by TomTom.

The Spoken Voice Warnings from PocketGPSWorld for use with the pgpsw cameras all last a good three seconds and more - click on any Voice Sample to get the idea.

Sorry gave a screwed up answer so this is the best way of deleting it.

Sorry I thought it was screwed up but now realise that andrewb246 has probably read Andy_p answer.

Hmmm.. I'm sure I posted an answer to this about 20 minutes ago, but it seems to have vanished into the ether.

To paraphrase.....

the spoken warnings are probably the best way to go, but if you are really keen to just lengthen your existing warning sound, that's possible too. EVEN IF YOU'RE using TomTom's own database.

How easy it is depends on the age of your hardware - have a look in the TomTom's storage using Windows Explorer. Find the "sounds" folder and see if it has a bunch of .wav files for all the sound effects.

If it does, you can edit one of those with any audio editing program on the PC (Audacity is a good free one) and then save it back to the same folder with a new name.

If it doesn't we'll have to find it another way.

Let us know how you get on, and if you need any more help or tips, give me a shout via the forum.

Andy_p it looks as though your answer has become part of the andrewb246 question now how can that happen? It confused me.

I must stop drinking that cheap whiskey.

OOPS! That's where it went! Embarassed

I've done that before...
As a moderator I get an "Edit" button right next to the "Quote" button.

Trouble is... I moderate on a few other forums too and all the others have the two buttons the other way round. So I edited rather then replied...

Now repaired and wrist slapped....

dhn No the Whiskey is safe to drink its just that whilst I was typing my answer Andy_p was doing his but with his special privileges as a moderator he added it to the original question. So when I posted my answer and checked that it was OK in relation to the question I was baffled as it seemed I had not fully read the question to start with so I gave up and removed what I had done (there doesnt seem to be a delete)

I don't think dhn's whiskey is all that safe - you'd have to travel to Canada to get it, I expect. On the other hand, Whisky in Scotland might be a safer bet. Laughing

thanks for the replies. I used Audacity to lengthen the warning sound. I put it onto my Tomtom and it works very well.
