So it does seem that the TT is looking to be connected to the PC. As I have said previously what happens then is if I switch off the TT and then switch on again and follow the "Do you want to connect to your computer" the only screen I get on the TT is the plugged in screen - tapping the screen has no effect - it's locked onto the PC.
There's a bit of confusion going on here.
Point 1 - You DO NOT need to be connected to the PC to get information on LIVE Services.
In fact, as we said, it will NOT WORK if you try to do it while using the Home "Operate my Go" emulator. This is normal.
Point 2 - What you say about the TT screen being locked when connected to the PC and you've answered "Yes" is entirely normal. Try answering "NO" next time if you want to use the TT as normal and just have the PC supplying power.
Please DON'T be connected to the PC at all for any further experiments, it just complicates matters.
Point 3 - If you go to Change Preferences/ My TomTom Account you should be able to check you are logged into the correct account name that you registered.
Please tell us whether you used a new account name (email address) for this machine, as re-using one that you used for a previous TomTom can cause problems.
Point 4 - When you tap "Live Services" in the main menu on the TomTom itself, there SHOULD be a new menu including the icon for "My Services". If you tap that, you SHOULD get a list of the services you are subscribed to and their expiry dates.
If you are not getting to the LIVE Services via the normal menus, it's a problem, but it's nothing to do with connecting to the PC.
First thing to check is if you have a good GPRS mobile phone signal from the built-in SIM card in the TomTom.
Go to Main menu / Status and Information / Version Information and select "Network" at the bottom.
Does it say "Connected", and are there numbers showing in al four of the next lines for MCC/MNC, SIM ID, IMIE and Model?

Andy,
What a fantastic reponse, thank you. Of course I now realise it's a DOH! moment. Your response made it so obvious ie. that it was the GPRS signal that I needed to connect to not the PC!
It has taken me ages to sort this out because when the penny dropped I realised that I cannot get a mobile signal in my house or when I tried it in the street (where my neighbours must have thought that I have gone off on one). So, I had to go for a drive to find a spot where I could carry out the simple task and find that everything is in order.
