I'm thinking of upgrading my Nuvi 710 to a newer unit.
I like my 710 but the slow startups while it defrags itself drives me mad. I'm itching to go but it sits there for a couple of minutes not usable ...
Do the latest Nuvi's have the same issue? |

I klnow what you mean as i had the 760 and 765 but do you have any idea where this claim it's defragging comes from? Solid State Media should never be defragged and only has disadvantages... |

I've never seen a definitive answer to the delay. Manually clearing the trip log seems to take a long time and some people have theorised that keeping this clear prevents the slow start up.
It seems to be some housekeeping function of the 710 - probably not defragging in the traditional sesns but some reorganising/clearing of data.
Either way it's pretty annoying |

After a bit of a search around I've seen that on the "hidden" settings screen there is a counter called DEFRAG but no-one has proved yet what it actually means...
On person did point out that removing all the CustomPOIs seemed to make things better..... |
