I can't find much information on the basis by which ECO routes are calculated. (I have a new Go 950 and this is the first time ECO has appeared as an option.)
I fed in a route from home, (Bedford) to Gloucester. On Fastest route, it shows 135 miles, and 2hr 19m. The route is A421 to the M1, then up the M1, round Birmingham and down the M5. ECO route shows virtually the same, but with 134 miles, and again 2.19. If I tell it to avoid motorways, the route is almost a straight line cross country, takes 2.35 and is only 91.1 miles.
I can't see how it can be possible for the motorway route to be more economical than the cross country route, given there is only a 16 min time saving, but an extra 43 miles.

Eco route is a combination of Fastest and Shortest although basically providing the fastest solution. If there is another route which takes a little longer but a lot less distance than the fastest one, that will be chosen to save fuel.
In many cases, especially on shorter journey's, there will be hardly any difference but on longer journeys there can be some advantage on fuel saving but not taking much longer to get there.
Try London to Clynnog Fawr, for example. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
