Really hope they do bring out HD traffic for WinMo phones.
My HD2 has a great screen and 1ghz processor so would be fab with Tomtom. However, the lack of IQ routes and HD Traffic in Navigator 7 is a big disadvantage.
Have used Tomtom 940 pna with HD traffic for over a year now, and it is massively better at dealing with congestion than the standard traffic service. |

Traffic seems to be working OK now even though it still says expired on the traffic page!
Still no luck with Google search. I can't understand why that's not working for me if it works for others. |

What sort of contract are you on, and is it a jailbroken phone? |

That argument simply doesn't hold water as the latest iPhone app was cracked and loaded to dubious web sites within hours of its release - They really need to get smart with the activation system and move away from the current method for ALL their software - Mike |

I had the same problem this morning, it wouldn't get any traffic information, I rebooted the phone and it still wouldn't connect to get traffic.
I've just started it up and it's downloaded traffic information succesfully.
Something was broken at 6am this morning! |

HD Traffic eventually came back sometime between 0800 and 1000 this morning.
Evidently some server issue.
I did log a ticket with TT last night, but have yet to get a reply. My issue is that I had purchased a day pass, but received less than a day.
Will wait to see what response, if any, I get. |

It does.
Market penetration for WM phones is lower, and TomTom is not so easy to purchase. Plus there's no need to jailbreak a phone to run a pirate version.
Conversely there are plenty more iPhones around, and TomTom is much easier to buy over iTunes. Plus you need to jailbreak the phone to run a pirate version.
It's easy to see why the iPhone is more popular with TomTom, although it took some time for them to get going.
Only TomTom have the sales figures though, and I doubt they'll be sharing. |

What they should be moving to is an access controlled system using the phones GPRS connectivity for device activation on a very frequent basis (suggest daily) that is constantly re-checking
This could easily use the iPhones data connection, the PDA or Smart Phones data connections and should also work with the Live connected PND range - very difficult to hack if done properly - Mike |

I used this app properly to travel across London yesterday and noticed one disconcerting feature, apart from HD Traffic not working in the morning.
I had it set to 'always ask' for toll roads as I wanted to avoid the Congestion Zone, and that was fine, the route selected was reasonable and it avoided the Zone.
However, when the traffic changed, it asked me if I wanted to accept the new route, I pressed the tick, and it directed me into the Zone. Luckily it's not connected to the steering wheel, so I avoided any charges:-)
I would suggest that anyone using this device, selects alway avoid, or don't avoid before you start off. |

The sales figures aren't secret, tho perhaps a bit disappointing? Around 180,000 total worldwide copies of their iPhone app sold since release according to TT in an interview early this month. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

I would agree in principle - but what happens when you go on holiday and don't have any data for a couple of weeks (don't fancy paying £3/Mb), but would still rather like to use the GPS you spent so much money on... I don't think that *any* software (desktop or mobile) that does not rely on an internet connection for it's core functionality should demand online activation on a frequent basis.
Maybe the iphone app could be free on the itunes store, and use an in-app purchase to enable individual maps.
I wonder if anyone has used a pirated version to make an in-app purchase of traffic, and whether anyone at tomtom or apple is checking for that sort of thing
Either way - this update has finally persuaded me to part with my cash (it's what the app should have been from the start), and i'm very happy with the app, as well as the HD traffic. (Apart from the fact that it unfathomably does not use the built-in compass in the 3GS; I was stuck in traffic today and it kept re-routing me because it thought I was facing the wrong direction!!) |

How does that compare with WM though?
I'm guessing they'll have sold a few hundred thousand of their standalone devices. |
