I feel foolish asking this - I cannot believe that a genuine Tomtom part does not work, yet cannot see what I am doing wrong.

I bought a genuine TomTom iPAQ car holder:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOMTOM-MOBILE-HP-IPAQ-CAR-KIT-MOUNT-CHARGER-HOLDER_W0QQitemZ350159670292QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CE_GPS_Accessories_Software_ET?hash=item5187248c14

I expected the jaws to be sprung, so they clamp shut to hold the iPAQ securely. But they are not sprung at all - they just slide apart freely (like sliding doors), with no locking or ratchet mechanism to keep them closed. They appear to slide merely so they can accept different sized PDAs.

If I push the jaws tightly around the iPAQ, they just automatically loosen.

Consequently the iPAQ is held loosely and is free to fall forward. It will actually fall out of the holder.

Has enyone else used this holder and found it to be rubbish, or have I just missed something?

Has anyone tried this mount?:

Surely someone here has this holder and knows what the solution is. I am convinced I am doing something wrong.

Thanks.

Indeed the jaws should be sprung and held againt a ratchet mechanism, the release button top right should be depressed to open the jaws I guess that might be stuck down otherwise it sounds like your mount is U/S - Mike

Thanks, Mike.

Owing to your post, I tried depresssing the lever in case it had jammed - it makes no difference.

When I wrote my post I was convinced that the design was faulty. I now feel that my item must be U/S and am asking for a refund/replacement.
