Surely this is the whole point. When you KNOW which way you want to go, GO. But when you don't, the satnav WILL get you there somehow.

I don't really see why a piece of hardware should be expected to always suggest EXACTLY what local knowledge suggests. I tend to use mine just for traffic warnings/reroute advice and the map view, ignoring routing instructions until I get to where I don't know where I am (if you see what I mean).

The main thing is to have reasonable confidence in the general accuracy of the satnav's operation so that you feel you can rely on it in a hard place! Sad And as already mentioned, the Chunnel is not necessarily a bad choice for 'fastest' (except in my own experience Evil or Very Mad )
