Still, what I asked for stands - a hibernate mode that is activated by the power button and which doesn't "timeout" after a preset period - i.e. the unit remains in standby until either the power button is pressed again, or the battery gives out.
I think all that would be needed to support this is to add an extra option of 'Indefinite' to the current hibernate options of off, 1,2,4,8 hours.

The Hibernation mode works as Planetnine explained by retaining some of the data required to get a fix within the volatile memory of the device.
Ordinarily this data has to be picked up from the cyclical transmissions from the satellites. This is what causes the delay in getting the fix. A similar system is used on Tom Toms but in that case the data is loaded on when docked to a computer."Quickfix"
There are two flaws in the indefinite hibernation suggestion. The first is that the Active 10 uses some power while in that state. While 8 hours may be an acceptable trade off, weeks or months would run the battery flat.
Secondly the data saved on hibernation is only fresh for a short period. As it goes stale, the fix takes longer and longer, until the benefit is gone.
To my mind what would be useful would be the ability to close it down immediately without entering the chosen hibernation period. This is why the installation instructions for V1.420 (via Satsync at least) tell you turn off hibernation and switch of the unit after upgrade.
