Hi all. Has anyone had any problems with the 12v cigarette socket plug? the plug supplied with the Aldi/Medion ubit seems a little to small for the standard size car socket and is easily dislodged cutting off the power.

Also; Has anyone tried some form of heatshrink PTFE or similar in an effort to tidy up the miles of cable (ie; triple looping the aerial cable alongside the PPC power supply) Are there any other ideas that will keep this spaghetti in check? Confused

Great site by the way - VERY informative...

I have wired in the cigarette socket plug directly to the fuse box power supply in my car, thereby bypassing the cigarette socket altogether. The wires can then be hiden behind the dash, only to emerge where I have placed the holder. Of course this is only useful if you don't intend to remove the kit from the car on a moments notice!

I thought about doing that - I assume there is just a simple plus/neg connection at the business end ie; just two wires?

The trouble is, there is more than one size of standard socket. The one in my car fits perfectly, but when I bought one from Halfords to make a portable adaptor, its slighly bigger requiting an elastic band to hold the unit on (which you cant do if its fitted in a car).

Halfords also do a 3 socket extension, which I've mounted in the footwell behind the centre consol. The sockets on this fit the satnav and mobile phone charger well. Also its plug which fits in to the cars socket is very small allowing the ash tray flap to be closed, but also means its unlikely to work loose in a slightly larger socket, unlike the bulky satnav one.

Cheers

Thanks Druck... I Think a visit to Halfords is in order!
