Erne, the Magellan carkit is adjustable to accept most cased/skinned iPhones. That's why it also will work with the (2nd gen) iPods.

If you had read my linked review of the Brodit Adjustable cradle above you would see that it is designed to accommodate an iPhone in a case.

Thanks I was not aware of these. I have had the phone 18 months and did my origional search for a suitable holder about a year ago where there were not a lot of holders out there. Since then I have been using the velcro have not really looked that hard for a replacement

If it works for you then that's a great solution. I wouldn't have anywhere I could locate my iPhone where velcro would do though.
