Initial impressions after owning a 950 Live for a couple of weeks.

HD Traffic is a vast improvement over the last time I used the old TT service a couple of years ago. On a recent round trip of 500m on M4/M5/M6/M65 it proved reliable and accurate during journeys where there were many traffic problems.

TT kindly switched my Map Update Service from old 910 to 950 in 24 hours, over the Xmas break.

A couple of issues - some things don't work as per manual, such as limited options for updating camera locations, and no text to speech. I have queried these but expect to be told to await an update.

Also, map scrolling on the old 910 was slow and difficult to control. The extra power of the 950 has been soaked up in enhanced functionality leaving map scrolling slow and difficult.....

If there is any progress on these I will post an update.

The device certainly does have TTS, have you looked on the device for the Kate or Simon voices? - if they are not present there is an issue with Home stopping the TTS voices being made available for the x50 units, but its easy to add them yourself using Windows Explorer - Ask if you need further advice on how to install these - Mike

Grateful for the advice but Kate is most definitely installed (no others available though, which is the issue you refer to?), but no tts-like icon listed when trying to assign warnings. I'll tell you what TT say idc.

Home not offering the other TTS voices is the bug that I was refering to, if you have Kate selected on the device as the active voice it should be possible to create spoken POI alerts using the TTS system - What are you trying to do and where does it go wrong?

I set my 950 up the other week with a specific TTS message for some POI files in order to check out camera locations I had captured earlier in the day through the roadworks on the M6 so I know the device will support this feature - Mike

Is Jakle talking of TTS warnings for TomTom's cameras, not our POI cameras?

Yes I refer to the built in TT camera database; haven't loaded the pgw one yet. TTS is there for all other POIs as Mike says.

AFAIK its never been possible to use a TTS spoken alert for a TomTom Safety Camera, this has applied from the 910 right through to the current model range - Mike

Mike I suspect you're quite right as I have always used pgw database since hp5400 then TT910 days; first time with TT cameras. I can't understand why this can't happen though as the programme routines/ processes look similar for their cameras and other pois. I'll report TTs view when they reply.

Getting back to initial impressions.

My 950 seems to freeze at least once a day, which is a pain. I've used a 910 since it was introduced and have never, not once, had it freeze.

Mine has been absolutely fine in the couple of weeks I've had it. Anyone else had problems?

Jakle:

Funny - I've just posted the exact same issue over on the YourTomTom forum...

http://www.yourtomtom.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14192

Have a read of what I experienced this morning!

There is a new 9.026 build available now via TT Home!

This may fix the issues you are describing!

Steven

Official TT answer to the two questions I raised originally at the top of this thread:

"The software has been updated and as a result of this the two questions you have raised are now true. You cannot now create a text to speech for cameras and adding cameras only gives you the option of fixed or mobile.

At this point I am not sure if these services will be returned to the devices but I'm afraid they will not work for now."
