got my new go 940 live, been messing around with it for a couple of days now, seems to be working fine, the live traffic info is great ! just want to ask a couple of questions, hope some of you guys can help,

how do i make a backup ? is it a case of dragging and dropping all the files from the device to my hard drive ?

i live on a newly built estate which is not on the maps, how do i get a up to date map ?

if i install navcore 9, how much differance will i notice with the device, eg the main screen when i am driving ? also is it easy to install navcore 9 ?

will a 4gb micro sd card be ok ?

sorry if this sounds like mastermind, just dont want to end up with a brick if im unsure what to do !

Have a read through the FAQ page, performing a Backup is #1 in the list see Here

The latest map is v840, tap the sat strength meter followed by the version box and the resultant screen will tell you the version of the installed map. If its not v840 you have 28 days from purchase in which to update the map for free using TomTom Home software running on your PC, the latest map gaurantee feature is what you need to use. As its a 940 make sure you get both the Western Europe map and the North American map updated for free.

Navcore 9 is not officially released for the 940 as yet, to be honest it offers very little advantage over what will be loaded to your device (Ecco Route profile and very little else).

A 4GB MicroSD will be fine but remember the device can use up to (and including 32GB), if you fancy installing a whole load of mp3 files to the card then 4GB might be a little small.

To avoid bricking the device follow the FAQ for taking a backup and don't mess around installing software not intended for the device until you are 100% happy that you know what you are doing and understand the consequences - Mike

A new map is still unlikely to have your new westate on it, though.

You MAY be lucky, but changes like this can sometimes take (literally) years to appear.

You are looking at the version number of the application installed (if you tapped the satellite bars).

Now, tap the version number and the next screen shows the map installed and its version number.

Perhaps they are using MWT now (Mean World Time) I think someone perhaps made a little mistake, or the server is located in Australia or New Zealand now.

My last post was one hour fast so this suggests the server is still using BST (British Summer Time) or the server is located in Europe as oppopsed to UK. What part of the world do you live in Blackstar?

Hi Guys,

Go to 'Profile' at the top of this page and check your time zone setting.

Assuming you're in the UK, it should read GMT in the winter after clock change at the end of October, and GMT+1 during summer time after the clocks change at the end of March.

You need to manually do this yourself when the clocks change.

Hope that helps.

(Edited to tidy up sequence of instructions)

Obviously you didn't spot Darren's post in the "News And Latest Information" forum on 25 October! Stop it!

Connect the 940 to PC, start TomTom Home and then click Tools, Use Latest Map Guarantee. That should get you maps v840. You SHOULD get both Europe and North America - if you don't, ring TomTom and grouse violently at them until they give you the "other" latest map.
