I have just bought a Satmap Active 10 (not the 10 plus which comes with on line route planning software). Is it possible to plan routes easily using Bing maps? Understandably, the Satmap manual doesn't mention this. Without really knowing what I was doing I seem to have plotted some sort of route and exported it as a .gpx file, but I can't test it out until my Satmap arrives next Tuesday. I have searched this forum without success - is there a step by step idiot's guide to producing a route and saving it? Although I have been using satnav in my car for some years, this is my first foray into open countryside using GPS, except for a Garmin Gecko

Thanks Bosun, I'll experiment when the SatMap arrives. If anyone can help with a systematic way to produce the route on Bing in the first place I'd appreciate it - the route I produced was a bit hit or miss - I didn't really know what I was doing!

Thanks Rothers. The maps displayed on that site are splendid, but I have failed to create a route. I tried to follow the instructions in the Help file, but it didn't work. (I am using Google Chrome, which may be the problem. When I have time I'll try again with IE)

In addition to the above suggestions, I have also used Google Earth with no problems (including eg getting elevation data for viewing under route profile). My route planning choice just depends upon where I am going.

Jospee, the walkhighlands link is superb. Walk planning (for the whole of the UK) is simplicity itself, and it's a single button press to download it as a GPX file. Thanks!
