Hi all; Just got a lovely Stmap Active 10 Plus for Christmas and so far in a couple of hours use the damn thing has frozen umpteen times, also, the 1:50 Nat Park SD card has to be inserted about 4/5 times before it recongnises it. Before I take it back for a refund, I would be interested to see if these were common faults or if I have just been unlucky. Dont feel I have any faith in it, especially for instance in a white out in the Cairngorms. |

Definitely NOT common faults. There is a thriving userbase of Satmap owners here including me.
What software version is it running currently? _________________ Darren Griffin |

You have not said which software version you have, but as the unit is new I will assume that you are on version 1.4. You can check by selecting the version option from the settings screen.
From the thread here: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=80764, it seems that the SD issue may be related to the v1.4 software. A fix has been promised to another poster. Alternatively, it could be a faulty SD card or the device itself. Other posters have reported SD cards that needed exchanging by Satmap. You may like to check that the contacts are clean and test the card in a card reader on your PC if you have one.
There are two other smallish bugs effecting certain hardware versions and v1.4 that have been raised here. One of them causes the the device freeze up. As far as I know it only occurs if you are trying to change the settings in the Set Trip Data screen (settings). This usually necessitates battery removal to un-freeze the device. Again a fix is promised soon, and I suggest that you avoid trying to change the settings in this screen for the time being. Freezing has not otherwise, been reported here for some while, and a couple of software updates ago.
If you are able to be more specific about the circumstances of the freezing, then it may be easier to help you. |

Klevshin,
Don't give up on it,it is a cracking device. There is plenty of help available on this forum and Satmap themselves are only a phone call or e-mail away and their after sales service is excellent. If it is a faulty device I have no hesitation in saying they will sort it for you one way or another.

Hi all; Great replies...big thanks, and in reply:
1. The GPS is running with the latest software and a check of the serial number reveals it be one of the latest batch manufactured
2. I have made no changes to the settings whatsoever
3. The freezing occured in a fairly random way and did not relate to any one particular interface or page etc.
I must have just got a duff one! |
