Please can someone help.
Every time I update my speed cameras the alert reverts to the default Tomtom 'boing' and I have to set them all up again. I am using a Tomtom One XL with an 'ogg' file for each type of camera and the relevant speed. Sad

They shouldn't do. This would normally only happen if you update the App via TomTom HOME or install anew map?

The simple solution if you are not doing either of the above is to take a copy of mapsettings.cfg located in your map folder.

The warning settings are stored in here. If they reset, just copy your backup back to the XL.

In the current Map Folder (it has the OV2 Files in it), is a file called MapSettings.cfg, and once you have the settings as you want them make a Copy of it in another location on the Device. Usually the Root of the Memory.

If you loose the settings in the future just Copy the file back to the Current Map Folder, and overwrite the one there.

Be aware that this may NOT always work if/when you update your Map.

Hi
I have tried this and it does not appear to work.
I have tried various methods but as soon as I access the SD card either via the device or when I remove it from the device to plug it into a card reader on my pc, it resets the voice settings. All I have too do is remove the card and replace it with the device switched off and I lose all voice settings.

Interesting... There was a very similar question yesterday from 'robthunstrom' in the speed camera section HERE.

Either there is something VERY funny going on with new TT software (which seems unlikely as no-one else has complained), or you may be both doing something which upsets it, that we haven't found before (also seems unlikely!).

Can I suggest you also try the suggestions I made in that post?

Also, when you say

....can you set up one or more of the camera sounds again, check the time you did it, then do what you say kills them and check the time stamp of the MapSettings.cfg file stamp again to see if it has changed.

I have the checked cfg dates and as soon as I update the camera data the cfg date changes without me making any other changes.
I also lose the voice attachments without the cfg date changing by just attaching to the pc. I am now even more confused.

The mere act of copying our camera files should not change the .cfg file so something odd is going on.

Can you clarify how you copy the files?

When you update the cameras, are you doing anything on the PC. I only ask because some users have had similar problems in the past if they use the "Operate my Go" (or One / XL etc) function within Home.

Does the problem also happen if you just connect the XL to the PC or put the SD card in the reader without updating the cameras?

I take it you have the map and camera data in the same folder on the SD card (not sure if this model has internal memory).

Another thought - to update the cameras, you should just be overwriting the ov2 files. You're not doing anything else, are you?

I normally do a copy and paste with the device attached as an additional drive. The attachemnts also get lost if I remove the card and update it in stand alone mode.
Tomtom Home is not running.
Map and camera data are in the same folder.
I do only update the ov2 files.
All software and maps are up to date.

This also happens on another older ONE XL that is running on internal memory only. This one has not had its software updated for about a year, but as soon as I change the ov2 files I lose the voice attachments.

Have you tried a complete re-install from scratch? (i.e. newly downloaded version of software, maps from an early backup).

Otherwise, I'm stumped for now by this one....
Where are you based?

This may or may not be connected.

I installed the latest camera file and also about 8 POIs - as usual.

This time I found that about half - not all, of .ogg files I had for some POIs had also been removed. I had to copy them back from the trash.
The only reason I checked was because of this thread and another very similar post.
I have a TT720, latest software that has not been updated for some months now.

I always copy any POI update into the camera file and then copy all the new files over in one go. This is 1st time I've noticed a problem with the .ogg files.

Cheers Bob

Another idea - you are using the "safely disconnect"/"eject" option before removing your TomTom or SD card from the PC aren't you? There may be file problems if you don't.

When you loose the alert settings, do you also loose your 'home' and/or 'recent destinations'? Could be that the mapsettings.cfg file is being corrupted.

Could you also confirm if it happens or not if you just connect the TomTom to the PC and just "look" at the contents etc - not changing them in any way.

I'm also stumped so just trying to discount some things from being the cause. Confused

I do not have a recent backup.
I am based between Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard.
I do 'eject' before I remove the device.
I do not lose my home location.
I do lose my voice connections if I connect and just look at the files.

Cheers
Robert

OK, my suggestion....
Make a new backup
Delete everything and reformat.
Connect to Home and reload fresh copies of the software, voices etc.
Download a new map if it will let you (it probably won't - this only works if you bought a new map via download recently or got one via the Latest Map Guarantee)
Check the TT works (it should boot up but say "no maps found")
Delete JUST the MapSettings.cfg file from the named map's folder in your backup (or an earlier backup if you have one)
Copy the rest of the folder back to the device.
Boot up and re-do all your settings (hopefully for the last time!)
