New Icon on GO740 Live

Today my GO740 flashed a new (I haven't seen this one before) icon on the screen. In the top left corner was a red triangle with a black car image within. It stayed on the screen for about 20 minutes or so, and then disappeared. Any ideas what it was trying to tell me?

I took a screenshot of mine and now that it's close enough to see, I've spotted the rain. But it's the first time any of their icons have made any sense to me. Obviously they are beautifully crafted, but at more than arm's length on the windscreen they are simply too far away to distinguish the pretty blobs.

I suppose the answer to my question is RTFM, but is there some explanation and set of pictures of all these weird icons, especially the different ones for cameras ( about a dozen I think)??

You should have realised what it meant at the time, Dennis. After all they've put a clue on the right-hand side of the screen with the picture of the man putting up his umbrella!

You'll also see it on the map view. There is also a wind sock icon for high winds too..

Well spotted Anita nice to have a chuckle first thing in the morning.

If things have got to the state that we need our sat navs to tell us its raining, when we are driving along behind a windscreen being partially obliterated by the stuff, until the wipers pass over it the next time, then it is perhaps time we all pack in and go home.

This also applies to those who do not use headlights when in heavy rain and rear fog lights when in heavy rain or spray when on motorways.

This does not excuse those who use front fog lights in anything other than thick fog to help them alone see where they are going (its illegal). Because of the angle of inclination they don't help anyone else, as the reflected light dazzles, particularly if you are a motorcyclist who has to use a visor without any wiper blades.

Sorry for the rant but but anyway I can get the message across is worthwhile.

In that case why have weather forecasts at all? The icons aren't their to tell you it's raining but to warn of extreme weather conditions such as Heavy Rain and Wind. It's useful to have such a warning so you can take it into account when planning your journey, esp if you are driving a high sided vehicle, riding a motorcycle or towing something.

Thanks for all the explanations. Thing is, there was NO rain.
Regarding the fog lights, my understanding is that it is legal to have front fog lights ON when it's raining, but not rear fog lights. This is why the switch puts front lights on first, and then a second flick or turn of the switch to put the rear fog lights on, for use only in fog.

That's the problem so many think its legal to have front fog lights on in the rain. They do nothing to improve the drivers forward vision and dazzle everybody else it is contrary to rule 236 of the highway code that says: -

You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

Rule 226 defines the visibility as when you cannot see more than 100 meters, something that rarely happens in this country now. At least in my part of world, I know coastal areas can be different.
