ADMIN Edit: discussion split from this thread.

I have an I-gotU from Maplins a few weeks ago for £29.99, now gone up to £49.99, that will record a lot to the internal memory, but need to be recharged regularly, comes with an ap to plot on Google maps, no video, but will locate photos

What we need is to get the guys who sell the RoadHawk to modify the software display output to give HDOP and preferably the number os satellites in view as well, that way it could be used in court without an expert witness I would hope?
Especially as the video could ge used/stills from it showing not only the sate, time speed etc but the degree of error and number of satellites in view.
Maybe there might be some cps prosecutors who have this bee in their rear end and you might end up needing an expert witness but who knows.

Has anyone contacted them to see if they could include that data on the vieo overlay?

If they cant then try these people http://www.blackboxcamera.com/pic-osd/gps_units.htm

They will modify the data output to give whatever information you need, and aparently don't charge much extra for doing this, in some cases they havent charges extra at all.

I was going to make my own in car system using one of these overlay units, with speciallised output, and overlaid on a forward and a rear facing camera and and record the audio in the car at the time (handy if pc plod stops you and says something by your windows he later changes)

The only reason I haven't done this is I cant find any kind of recorder that will record video to an SD card that is cheap enough, it would have to record at least 2 channels of video (forward and rear) and audio.
I even tried looking for a circuit to build one myself but havent found one yet!

Oh yes it has to be able to record on a 16GB card and possibly a 32GB in at least 640 X 480 25-30fps, and preferably higher video resolution in case I can find a higher resolution camera that doesn't cost the earth! (man of very limited means)

Ideally I;d like recording capability that will record up to 12 hours on one card (pref more) as sometimes we travel down to see the kids in Cornwall, we are up north, and its a 10-12 hour journey there and back, also the other half travels 100 miles a day to work and back and I'd like to record at least one maybe two weeks worth of driving to/from work and then change the card when full, and reuse each card once 7 months are up, that is enough time for any queries tickets etc to arrive about any driving incident.

Roadhawk only sell the device, they aren't the manufacturers. But I will ask as they may be able to point the developers at this thread.

FWIW I have seen units that record front view and have another camera that records the interior/rear view so they have 2-channels but I don't know what frame rate and resolution they use.

You could use 2 RH-1's though?

There are some 2 Channel PVR / DVR units on eBay but they only accept 2GB SD - there are some that have 16GB SDHC and audio but only 1 input for Video and 1 for Audio so you would have to then intercept the video with the overlay.

My setup is cuurently a Sony G7 CCTV camera that is linked into a video input on my Vauxhall Color Interface Display (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOnY1flxfIk&feature=related) - problem with that is interface is NTSC and PAL camera only plays back black and white Sad

The overlay link you showed would be interesting especially if combined with some kind of DVR for 'evidence' purposes you would then bascially have a unit with similar functions to the Police Provida units but I guess with better accuracy depending upon the satelite fix as they are a glorified stopwatch / speedo and video combined.

Roadhawk are going to ask about adding HDOP but they did day that hovering over this will tell you how many satellites were in view which is a start:
