CoPilot v8 - mapping not as detailed as Tomtom v7

Having used it to drive around rural Cheshire for the past few days it doesn't seem to be as "detailed" as Tomtom. There are twists and bends in Tomtom but CP8 shows the road as being nearly straight.

Is it purely the way CP8 renders the mapping, or is it based on inferior data?

Most likely the result of heavier compression of the map data. TomTom have been guilty of this on occasion when trying to squeeze a map into limited space on a device resulting in the issues you describe.
