anyone else have a 1490t (or similar, eg 12/13/14/16 series) and having problems with the touchscreen?

Specifically finger-scrolling: I find it almost impossible to control. The map either doesn't move, moves about randomly, or does nothign then leaps in the wrong direction.

Garmin say it's a fault and I'm sending it back tomorrow, but my friend has just bought a new one from Amazon today and, although it's better than mine, it's not perfect in this regard either.

anyone else seeing this? or can confirm they have a similar model and are definietly not having problems finger-dragging the map around?

thanks much...

I have a 1310, and I know the problem you mean, bizarrely I have got used to it now, it was totally different to my 255, I actually quite like it now.

Seems to work best if you use a finger nail rather than a finger tip. It does seem to be slightly better with the latest firmware, though there is no mention of any touch screen issues in the release notes.

thanks; using a fingernail worked well, albeit also leaving marks on the screen (which did wipe off).

even better, I've just discovered, is using a stylus designed for a touchscreen device: works almost perfectly now.

I'll still send mine back to Garmin, though, as my friend's still seems much better (both with 3.00 firmware).

thanks again.

Your satnav hasn't got a 'calibrate screen' function in the control settings has it? If it has, this might enable you to adjust the sensitivity of the screen.

thanks, and apols, I should have said: that was the first thing I tried, and also the first thing that Garmin suggested Smile

We had a good test today, with my 1490t (one of the first to ship) and his (arrived last week); his is *much* better.

The scrolling is much better, but still very far from perfect, and his shows no signs of another problem I have, which is regularly delays in re-drawing the screeen.

Yet we both have 1490t running the latest 3.00 firmware; his shipped that way, mine upgraded.

I will send mine back to Garmin tomorrow, and we'll see.

thanks again.

I got a replacement from Garmin. Very quick turnaround (couple of days), brand-new retail-boxed unit with all accessories, even though I only sent back the GPS itself.

Also, *everything* correctly updated in myGarmin for the new unit. Can't fault the level of service, certainly.

However, both the scrolling problem, and the other problem I reported (slow redrawing) are still present in the brand-new replacement. However, both problems are certainly better than they were.

Garmin today told me that slow redrawing was expected, and didn't comment on the continued touchscreen issues.

I suspect this is as good as it gets, until I switch to Navigon, which I am getting very close to doing.

Now engaged in a discussion with Garmin about why I get no traffic icon at all, sometimes, when the receiver is connected. Apparently this does not mean "no signal", as that's what the (undocumented) grey icon is for.
