TomTom do listen!

I have just been told that a forthcoming app update will see the return of UK PostCodes to the START.

The update will be available end of November through TomTom HOME.

Whilst it's good news that TomTom have announced that they will be supplying a 7 digit Post Code for the UK in a future upgrade, I wonder how many START users will actually upgrade!

As the START is a function deprived PND designed for first time users then I wonder how many of the target buyers will connect the START to a computer to get upgrades.

Regards,

True. Those who know it lacks them won't buy one, those who don't will neither know nor care as I bet many novice computer users will never update their devices anyway.

I'd hope that in time, UK versions will get the PostCodes included at production but I'll wager that's a way off with a lot of stock to clear first.

Still, it's better than nothing and at least any new owners who find their way to us can be told there is a solution in the offing.

What about the ability to warn when approaching a POI, this is another vital function IMHO without it I still see the unit as a lame duck - Mike

I agree with you on that.

Come on TomTom pull your finger out Wink

Do they not have any UK beta testers who point out these things.

What a question! Can you even imagine anybody with a link back to TT not mentioning it? I am NOT a BETA tester, but the very first time I used this new device I'd find it didn't do postcode navigating and I'd be back to them like a shot. We've seen far too much evidence in the past that TT somehow manage to send out testing gear but then shut up shop and ignore any feedback from testers.

If I were a BETA tester, I'd have told them about this within less than 24 hours of receiving it and by now I'd be asking myself why I bothered. Rolling Eyes

The UK does not have 7-digit post codes. It has 7-character post codes. At most, 3 of the characters are digits.

Yes, thanks for that Laughing

You knew what I meant though and it's often (albeit I concede incorrectly) referred to as "7-Digit" even though we all know it's a mix of numbers and letters!

Disappointingly, you are correct. But I wish you'd use ordinary black ink in the interests of legibility. You win this week's pendant award. Not Worthy

Why, precisely, is this "disappointing"?

I do realise that you are new here, but if it is beyond you to configure your browser to make the posting legible, then I would respectfully suggest that your time might be better spent on on one of the many forums which are dedicated to people who have low technical knowledge or ability.

I believe that Darren made the same comment about 3 hours before you did. It is regarded as polite to read the previous comments in a thread before commenting yourself - that way you won't risk repeating what somebody has already said, and looking extremely foolish in the process.

I'm not sure why people should have to adjust their browser just because you want to post in colour? Easier just to move on to the next topic.

And Phillip, I think you missed the subtle shift.... penDant... Now who looks a little foolish?

But I do read them! As a Johnny come lately, it's a problem for me that it often takes me a good 3 hours and 30 minutes to read, inwardly digest and laboriously type a reply to a post - these new-fangled keyboards are a lot different from the dipping ink pens I'm more used to. I've heard there's a crafty way to view intermediate posts whilst writing a reply, but it took me so long to get to be able to cope with this forum at "simple" level (and I don't read manuals) that it escapes my failing memory most of the time. At other times, I decide that I'll double comment anyway, having put in 3 hours and 30 minutes of blood sweat and tears I hate to waste it.

Or maybe I just thought you should hear that it wasn't only Darren who thought you were a pedant.

Apologies for Andy giving you two Ls - he sometimes gives me only one N - outrageous, innit?

I can't read blue very easily.
