Just documenting this in case other people have the same problem. A little while ago I updated my map and it caused my traffic subscription to say it had expired. Trouble is I didn't see the cause and effect until after several phone calls and email communications with TT support. Turns out they had to email me a couple of files (tmcodes.dat and traffic.dat) which I replaced on my TT and I was back in business. These had been corrupted by the map update. This is a known problem by TT second line support.

Sadly Tony we could have told you how to fix this as we found the problem and a solution about a month ago!

The files are not corrupt due to a poor download its the TomTom Home software that copy's these two files to the device as a file name but devoid of any data! (empty files of 0Kb in size)

The actual files needed were in the download and could have been simply sent to the device using Windows Explorer, I am still amazed that this needs referal to 2nd Line Support as TomTom were informed of this error and we provided the solution to them by e-mail weeks ago - I know the e-mail was sent because it originated from my computer! - Shame you have had to wait so long for what should, and certainly could have been a five minute fix, thanks for sharing the info though as it might assist others in the same boat if/ when they read this - Mike

Yes, I noticed the files were zero length.
The main reason I've been so long fixing it is because I've been traveling in the States for the last 3 weeks since I updated the map. I did have a quick look back through the forum, had I checked at the time I would have probably seen the thread.

You couldn't miss the thread, it was about 20 pages long, but the fix was somewhere in the middle of it so not the easiest thing to find.

Amazing that TT still haven't taken our wonderful advice on board.

Mike, I reckon we should start charging them for our support service Wink (TT that is, not the forum members)

Nah, Sorry I can't agree with that one - the Kudos associated with offering decent advice that actually fixes problems caused by a manufacturer is worth far more than any cash reward IMHO - Mike
