Slow slow start-up - TomTom One (v3) seems to freeze when tu

I have a TomTom One (v3) with GB & Western Europe Maps installed. (no memory card, maps are on the internal storage)

Lately, when I turn it on it takes ages & ages to start-up. Almost seems to hang. Even if I try turn it off during this time nothing happens.

I see either:
1) a black screen with a TomTom logo on it for ages & nothing progresses,
2) or if it has not been used for a while & the internal battery is dead I get a yellow / blue screen with a picture of a hard drive on & a blue scroll bar at the bottom, & again seems to get stuck here for ages (same screen as when I connect it to my PC to do software updates)

Eventually I am able to turn it off, & when I turn it back on it seems normal & loads to the grey map very quickly where it searches for a satellite, so 2nd time round it seems to be ok.

Is it at start-up time it starts searching for a satellite or does it only start searching when the when the map is greyed out but the software has been loaded?

Any idea why this is happening or what I can do to correct this? Firmware update, factory reset, format etc?
Could it be a dodgy "start-up image"? I once installed one, but have since removed it.

Anyone else experiencing this??
