the other day i was sat in traffic and the truck next to me had a laptop on the dash board. on the laptop there appeared to be tomtom navigation running but not the smaller version you get with home. i'm guessing you'd need some sort of emulator does anyone know how to do this.

Could it be Route Planner from within TT web site? If he had a route planned and an internet connection he could see it on the laptop.

Come to think of it now, I have seen a couple of people with laptops, or netbooks I suppose the correct name as they were about 10/12" screens running what looked like a nav system. Could it have just been Google maps?

Interesting to know.

Hi

Try looking at a PDA emulator. They should run a version of Tomtom that works on a PDA (v5/6/7). Have a look around the forums that deal with in-car PCs such as mp3car.com.

I have seen an older version running on a WM5 emulator and frankly it was very disappointing. The refresh rate was extremely slow and clunky. It wouldnt display full screen either, so the visual benefits are minimal. Legal activation may also be a stumbling block on newer versions.

Software designed for the job, like Garmin Mobile PC on the other hand looks very capable.

Plenty of options at Laptop GPS World

Cant remember which but I think one company has a trial version?

I have a Samsung n120 netbook with Garmin running on it, works great with BT GPS

Edit for N120 correction
