If you're going to use a card for the map it's always safer to insert it in a card reader rather than the device when you connect to Home. At one time, even if you selected the card for the updated map, Home installed it both on the card and the internal memory.
But the procedure isn't exactly complicated. You will, of course, be creating a back up of the device on your computer before updating the map. All you need to do is copy that back up to the card via a card reader, so you have both the current map and the application on the card. Make sure the device is disconnected so there's no confusion and then start Home. Home will see the card as a TT device and update the map in the normal way. _________________ Anita

I fitted the microSd card, and the maps downloaded onto it. I didn't use the crd separately (though I did ,make a backup!). I'm not entirely sure what is on the internal memory and what is on the card - but it just worked! No specialist knowledge needed. For info I didn't manage to get one that stated its category or speed, but a 4GB SDHC one from Staples @ £12. It seems to work fast.
So it seems the Go 750 Live may be OK. If you buy an expansion card. Thank goodness and thanks to helpers at PGPSW.
