i rarely have much good to say about Tom Tom but this update was slick and seamless for me. And my favourites and camera warnings appear to have stayed intact too which always hacked me off.

Downloaded in about 40 minutes, installed without incident (rarity) and I don't have any RDS-TMC issues.

Regarding the looping restart, could there be a link between those with problems and using SD cards for maps rather than internal memory? There could be a new command regarding keeping the mapsettings file intact which is writing it back to the internal memory instead of the SD? Just a vague theory but I know DennisN does this so worth putting out there to disprove.

Okay, I'll disprove it......

I keep my map (and hence mapsettings.cfg) on a sdhc card on my 720. After updating to my NA 835 map, I experienced NO rebooting problems.

Cheers dhn

To prove it the other way around, has anyone with everything on internal memory had the looping startup problem post map update?

Yes me!!! I've currently got an empty SDHC card in mine.

Thanks Calomax. It was evidently a truly vague theory!

Yeah, I just got one of those. Rolling Eyes

There seem to be quite a few of us in the same boat so hopefully there will be a soloution soon. I'm doubly annoyed because this device had only just arrived from Amazon to replace a faulty one. As soon as I connected it to HOME, new map and no traffic. Grrr

Ah, optimism!

TT told me to do this.

If you are having trouble using the Live Services on your TomTom, you will need to log into your TomTom account on your TomTom.

Please make sure that you have a fully charged TomTom with a GPS signal before trying to use the live services.

STEP 1 Creating a Manual backup of your TomTom

http://www.tomtom.com/3171#backup (Scroll to the bottom of this page to see how to make a manual back up of your TomTom)

STEP 2 Reset your TomTom device

- Reset your TomTom to factory settings via the Change Preferences Menu
- After resetting your device, you will need to set up your start-up preferences again. (Don’t do this just yet)
- Reset your TomTom; see http://www.tomtom.com/6965 in how to do this.
- Switch your device back on.
- Now go through the Setup of your device.

STEP 3 Log into your TomTom

- When your TomTom shows your current location(Please make sure your TomTom has a good GPS signal), Tap in the middle of the screen.
- Now tap on “Change Preferences”
- Scroll along to “My TomTom Account”
- Please log in using your email address and password.

STEP 4

- In the Main Menu, tap on TomTom services.
- Now Click on My Services in the bottom right corner.
- Here you should now see all your Services and your Traffic will now be working.

To be fair. It did the square root of naff all apart from waste an hour of my time.

I know probably misplaced optimism too.
They had me go through all that including going out into the middle of my garden to make sure I had a good GPS fix. I'm surprised they didn't ask to stand on one leg facing magnetic north. Actually I might give that a go it stands as much chance as their advice i guess.

That's where you went wrong you should have been facing True North not Magnetic North Laughing

No doubt TT will ask you to revert back to and earlier version and wait 6 months until the next update!!!

It appears that if the routing works and gets you from A to B, sod any other problem that’s been introduced.

Apart from the Volume issue which had a release within a shorter time frame (sorted the volume but introduced other bugs which we are still waiting for a fix) I have NEVER seen a quick fix from TT.

It's a long way back, but I reported my update on page 4. I had complete system and map on both SDHC card and internal memory and the 920 was booting and running from SDHC card as per default. Difference between the two was merely that on Internal memory I had app 8.351, whereas on SDHC card is 8.302 and I use the SDHC card because I can't hear the thing on 8.351. The update kept mapsettings.cfg on both card and internal (different contents of that file, of course, one with "today's" destinations etc, other with last month's).

Fired up immediately after update, it booted from SDHC card and worked perfectly. When I took the card out and booted from internal it got as far as startup splash screen then rebooted and looped round that way all the time.

decided to take the plunge and updated to the latest home and uk map.Apart from home being a bit slower on startup, everything worked as it should, RDS, voices and poi's.
unit is a TT720, running latest firmware and works with both types of RDS cable, the old one and the usb connector type. Really surprised me that one of the major road changes near me has now been included, after about a year since it has been open. Smile

Well I am running a mac with App 8.414 ona XL IQ Routes edition.

Managed to get the new map working eventually (v 836.2419) with TT help but my USB RDS-TMC now hangs and reboots at the moment it acquires the traffic data and then continuously loops.

Its fine if I disconnect the RDS-TMC Sad

Manually extract the tmccodes.dat and traffic.dat files from your downloaded map and overwrite the files in the map folder on your XL.

Then delete the gnsdata file from the gns folder on the XL.

Post back if this doesn't fix it - might be worth a hard and soft reset and a clearflash just to make sure as well.

[/quote] That's different from what mine did. When it was in the rebooting loop it connected to the PC without even asking. It was as though it was already connected. I had to start HOME manually though, but it seems I always have to.

I don't think mine was connected to the PC but I didn't think to try connecting to Home manually. normally, it connects automatically. This problem has not happened for the last two map updates and I wondered if it was because I now have the system and map running via the SDHC card.
From recent posts, this theory seems to have been proved negative.
Sorry about the "quote" not working out properly. Will have to have another go, can't find out quite how it works.
