I'm trying to choose between Navigon, TomTom and Sygic so this would be very useful.
The app data is also out of date as TTS and ipod controls are now part of TomTom 1.4 |
1.2 is the current version, not sure where you get 1.4 from? |

Do any of these applications allow you to make a call and receive a call while it continues to give you directions to your destination? |

no, this is a limitation of the apple SDK. they do not allow multi tasking in this way. you can, however, restart the app during your call (press the home button and you will get a green bar at the top which you press to go back to see your call details - then launch the app again) but the app will initially close...

On Trafficmaster Companion you don't have to phone just to get direction that's an option, it's there should you need to find somewhere and your not sure what the address is so an operator can look it up for you. You still have the option to input an address yourself along with postcodes plus you get taffic info with the app which isn't bad for an app thats £24.99 and thats for life of ownership with an iphone. |

ah, i see! but that's what google and mobile data is for! oh well, if people want to phone then let them... for £2 i'd rather have copilot though. this just doesn't 'look' right...!
i'll add it to the chart later though

The traffic info is the Trafficmaster app's USP. I actually think its one of the more compelling iPhone nav offerings. If I hadn't already bought Tomtom's, it's the one I would have gone for. |

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I received an email today from RoadTour: Quote: | "We’re delighted to announce the release of OutDoors, the first comprehensive Ordnance Survey app for the Apple iPhone, available from £1.79 for OutDoors Lite" | Haven't looked in detail yet but seems a pretty interesting offering at first glance. I see for example from their site that Outdoor National Parks @ 1:50k is £12.99 _________________ David

Great work on maintain ing the list. I was looking down it and spotted that TomTom 1.3 was listed with manual night mode. It now has an automatic night mode. _________________ Phil Lee

Why not, if done legally....
Some people drive, have a conversation and listen to directions from a passenger at the same time... |

Ah. How stupid if me to believe the research that says that taking a phone call, even if hands free, is a major source of distraction whilst driving. |

Dear MaFt,
Navigon is now up to version 1.5, and the Europe version is currently on sale (42.99 GBP I believe) until about April 12th. I've finally cracked and bought it (last night) so not tried it in anger yet. It has "panoramic 3D" as a paid option, but I don't know if that includes 3D landmarks-it might do, but I can't tell you because I've not bought the add-on.
I thought you might like to update the chart.
Regards,
Mike |
