They are periodically updated, what version have you got on your device? to find out connect the device to the computer and using Windows Explorer open the drive letter associated with the TomTom, then double click the "zip" folder. Right click the Great_BritainPostal.ver file and select "Open With/ Note Pad" it will then show you the version you have installed. The latest I have is v801 for the UK - Mike

Thanks for the information Mike I have version 504 so it seems to be quite old is there anyway to get the latest file?

I do subscribe to the map update service but from what you say this does not update the zip file.

There is a help reply on the TT website that offers a free download of the UK & Netherlands Post-code data for machines that were ought outside those areas. I would assume it supplies the latest data but there's only one way to find out!

One would assume so, but it doesn't.

The UK version is V701 and the Netherlands is V710. Rolling Eyes

Today I backed up my TT using windows and renamed the existing files within the zip folder, then pasted the new ones in. This still didn't resolve my problem of not being able to navigate to this specific post code (B23 5DD) but the TT still works OK otherwise. I can navigate to a street and house number so that will be OK.

I was told by those I will be meeting that because the building is new many sat navs do not have the post code yet.

I will contact TT support and ask them why they do not include post code updates as a normal part of TT updating, particularly when subscribing to map updates. The version upon my device is still the same one that it was purchased with so that means its around 3 or more years old, so there must have been many changes in the meantime.

The odd part is that the newer file is smaller than the old one making one think there are fewer post codes now than then but that cant be correct.

A lot of Postcodes relate to Mail Boxes at Royal Mail Centres. I believe that these are gradually being weeded out.

So yes, there are fewer, but they're not the ones you'd want anyway. Smile

Thanks for the explanation Richard it just helps to understand why the apparent anomaly could be.

As promised I did make contact with TT support to find out if they may have any plans to include automatic updates to the ZIP folder particularly when updating the maps.

The initial response just requires me to provide them with more information and they requested I should send them my System Information as follows: -

Connect TT device to Home version 2 point to "Help" on the menu bar and left click. From the drop down menu point to "System Information" and left click. This will display almost everything there is to know about your device and how it is setup on your computer. (A bit worrying if there are things you may not want someone to know) Then left click on the "Copy to Clipboard" option and you can then paste it into anything you may want to including the update your query on the TT website.

For those who did not know this option existed have a look it maybe quite revealing.

For anyone still using Home version 1 its much the same but they call it "Configuration Info"

Have tried this on my Navigon and Medion.

Both will bring up B23 5DA, 5DB, 5DE, 5DF etc, but not 5DD.

Probably as it is a post code that is unique to the Dove Primary Care Centre and this has not been notified to the map providers.

That post code is in the current Royal Mail database. I wonder how many months TomTom lag behind by?

My new business premises did not appear on TT's list for about two years and when it did finally appear it was about a mile from the right place!
