nuvi 265w zoom issue

Hi - my 265w keeps zooming out of the map detail even though i have the detail set to high (or more as it is in the setup screen).

If i'm driving about not on a route, when i join a major road after about 5 seconds the detail goes from more (the highest level of detail) to zooming so far out i can see France! When i check the map detail screen it's still set at more. I have to manually zoom it back in, only for it to zoom out again if i leave the current main road and join a new one!

It's driving me insane (no pun intended)

What am i doing wrong?

Hi and welcome.

You're doing nothing wrong. Although your case sounds a bit extreme that's how they work. You have little manual control over the zoom.

For the record the detail option decides how much detail (railways lines, rivers, side roads, road names etc) is shown and has nothing to do with the zoom.

The zoom out is worse when you have no route plotted because Garmin seem to think you won't need to use the screen, i suppose.

I used to have a Nuvi 660 it never did that, maybe i should return to that or maybe get the Nuvi 765T instead if that's any good...or will that do the same thing too?

I suspect the 765 will do the same - been a while since i used one. I'll see if mine is charged and give it a go later...

It might be worth persevering with the zooming in as it might "learn" but obviously only when safe to do so.

Remember if you have no route set then it's difficult for the unit to know where you might go next, however if you are seeing France that's quite extreme...

Also, if i recall correctly, the zoom is greater the faster you go so on motorways etc it can zoom out a long way.

I will take your advice and try and "teach" the unit the error of its ways Twisted Evil

Also might be worth giving Garmin a ring - I used to find them very helpful (some staff more knowledgeable than others of course). Although there can be a bit of a wait for someone to pick the phone up, it was usually more effective than emailing.

Thanks i'll give that a whirl, once i get an answer i'll post it, although by the sounds of it this is normal practice for the unit...
