Staff at one of Britain's biggest speed and traffic camera units could face job cuts after their funding was slashed by half.
Transport for London (TfL) has cut the budget of the London Safety Camera Partnership (LSCP) from £5.9 million to £3 million.
The unit, based in Victoria Street, Westminster, is responsible for operating 900 speed and red light cameras in the capital.
Officials said the move will not have an impact on their ability to cope with the millions of traffic tickets handed out every year.
But the last-minute decision has sparked a row behind the scenes after the Metropolitan Police was left to pick up the shortfall.

Senior officers said they cannot put up more money and the unit will run out of cash in September, when plans are in place to down-size it significantly.
The situation has raised questions about the state of LSCP's finances because senior officers were told when it was set up in 2002 that it would fund itself from fine income.
At that time, they were told the enforcement strategy could be made harsher if not enough money was coming in.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Negotiations are currently ongoing with TfL about the proposed funding of the LSCP.
"Any reduction in funding will impact on the number of staff undertaking the support function for the LSCP."

Well it cant be all bad news

dunno, less funding = they lower the allowed speed at speed cameras so more people get fined to make up the shortfall of £$€

Cynical perhaps MaFt, but cant help agreeing that they will cover the shortfall somehow.
