Just thought I'd start a new thread about the 8110 software upgrade.

Took 2-3 hours to install, and that's with Q1 maps (I'll update the Q2 maps later).
One thing I have noticed, but not tried yet is I have spotted a option for 'street name on 3D view' I know that was a big complaint people had about the 8110 3D view.

Noticed the map colours seem browner.
Used the 'myreport' feature to report missing roads
Text entry is now landscape instead of portrait
Now warns of curves and also pops up some road signs
More detailed instructions on A roads, such as take A6096 towards Spondon (instead of just saying to take the road).

Confused at the moment as to why all of my saved addresses appear to have vanished. Don't want to attempt a restore from backup as that would restore the old software?

Will add more changes as I find them, feel free to post your own

Update on Poiwarner issue. Fixed - I reinstalled and then went through the GPS Set-up wizard for PoiWarner on the GPS again.

There was a warning that user info would be deleted, so I wasn't too surprised when I lost my favourites as well. I made a note of them and will reinstall as I haven't got many.

With the POI-W and satellite issue, I've just done a Serliot reset in POI-W and a soft reset of the 8310 (how nice that sounds!) - satellites now picked up OK Razz

Maybe I should have paid attention to the notes. As for PoiWarner I just needed a fix last night so didn't have lots of time to mess around. Sad

Dear "jonandmarkuk" and "BigPerk",

Need to use my discount voucher by Monday the 29th. What is your verdict about the upgrade? Is it worth paying for?

Thanks for your help.

Personally for £50 I think it's a good deal. Out in Birmingham today (didn't drive down and used the Navigon to find streets for walking) Was really surprised when the GPS locked on the the sats in record time so not sure if the fix speed has been improved.
The building's in city view was handy as we saw the rotunda on the map and it did make it easier to figure out if we were walking in the right direction.

On the assumption that the software does what it says on the tin, and I think Navigon will do that even if tweaks are needed, what are the additional features YOU would like to have, and are they worth the cost?

Personally, I'll have a much better idea after my trip to France next week (I haven't road-tested it yet). But for me I am hoping for at least the following:

- proper RTC info for a good decision, ie relative times for following original and suggested routes;

- better orientation in urban areas with the city view;

- road names in 3D view (though I don't generally need them);

- voice command, to reduce screen tapping while driving (or pulling over to do it);

I am certainly also interested in the MyRoutes and MyLocation functions, but am not sure yet of their actual value on the road.

AND, I bought my upgrade, with my discount coupon, off the German site for €49 so am hoping it will result in a cost of about £42, which I am pretty happy about.

Thanks for all your responses. Out of this upgrade, I am mainly interested in:
- NAVIGON MyRoutes
- TMC Routing Info

Other features are secondary. I remember when I was searching for 8110, one feature I liked was re-routing depending on the traffic. Unfortunately, this never worked. I was sitting in traffic for an hour and device did not suggest anything only showed there was traffic on my route. I had to do manual re-routing by looking at the map. Even then, 8110 kept on trying to get me back to where I was . So I am hoping that this in TMCR works better. Looks like I need to purchase the upgrade as the voucher expires on Monday. So short time !!!

Once again thanks for all your insights into the new software.

Hi nyquist - I'm surprised you couldn't get re-routing to work at all. One of my big gripes last year was that whan I had it (inadvertently) on 'Auto-Reroute' it kept sending me all over the place and into strange countries, MILES before the problem, but with no hint as to delay/reroute timings - So I didn't have to use an atlas, except that it might have been better if I had! So for now, I make sure I have it set to 'On Request' - maybe when I'm more used to the upgrade I might trust 'Auto'again.

The only thing I can think of in your situation is that there wasn't a sensible alternative it could suggest (eg you were stuck between motorway junctions).

TMC handling is much improved. I'm uploading a video to youtube at the moment.
I plotted a route which had a closed road on it then ran a demo of the route.
Not only does it now alert to the information, you can say your command to the navigon. The navigon will then display the alternative route, advise how many more miles the route is and calculate the time saved. you can then ask navigon to use the new route. All without taking a finger off the steering wheel. Smile

TMC Demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVbmO1jGtH0

Sorry the camera is a bit shaky. Was late and didn't have chance to find something to steady the camera.
Personally I really like how the Navigon handles the TMC information. Yes I know it doesn't help if the information can't be recieved or is out of date. But certainly a huge improvement on how the 8110 gave the TMC messages and it was guesswork.

Hi, I also upgraded at the weekend and am please with the new features etc. Was interested in the uTube clip of the 8110 in that it showed a green on/off power button in the lower RH corner. What is this for? It does not appear on mine.

I notice that traffic alerts now give a duration of the delay as well as the length, a feature that many requested on the other posts

Thanks
Alan

Hi jonandmarkuk - very interesting clip. One VERY strange thing though - it said the alternative route would be used but then that route disappeared from the screen and you still had the original displayed as if that was going to be usesd; when the destination info then came up ithad 20 miles left:

(a) DID it take alternative or original?

(b) was it 20, not 28, miles because you shipped?

Well JonandMark, finally bit the bullet and followed you from ViaMichelin and ordered a new 8310 this week. Will test it in France next week and let you know the results. In the meantime I did buy a new Garmin 765 so will be useful to compare. Still do not know if it would beat the ViaMichelin for provision of touring information - like nearest rated restaurants and hotels.

Is the POI-Warner button.
It is a standalone software which must be purchased separately. It is normal not to have it

Sorry can't really answer as I recorded the video very late on and not knowing the area the closed road effected I didn't pay too much attention.
I assume that it changed the route as when I respond the 'alternative route' button looks to press itself and the Navigon say's it's using the alternative route. It maybe that the turning for the alternative route was further away?

Sorry I can't answer properly.
