Plan the trip in two parts, the first leg takes you to the port, the second leg routes you once you get off the boat - Mike

Plan your trip in 2 parts; from home to Dover and from Calais to Mulhouse.

I am fortunate as I only live a few minutes from the Channel Tunnel Laughing

Won't it let you do a "Travel via..."?

Let it create the route it suggests, then go to "Calculate alternative/Travel via" and put a point in near the port on the map.

I tried that, but it took me to Dover along the A20 and then straight back to the Channel Tunnel Terminal at Cheriton (Folkestone) via A20, M20, but that may be due to where I live!!!!!!!!

I just tried it too and selected as my "via" a point right in the middle of the channel on the dotted line the ferry takes.

That created a route with THREE channel crossings! Laughing
More research required!

Very odd Question Could it be something to do with your coords are on French soil over the tunnel, rather than in the sea over the tunnel?

Whatever is going on... I reckon it SHOULD let you choose the ferry! I see that as a bug....

Yes it is annoying! I was on the tunnel yesterday (my free TT trip Very Happy ) and it held signal until we got almost to the tunnel entrance!

Tomtom has always used the Channel Tunnel. I remember reporting this on one of the TT forums back when I got my 700 in Sept 2005.

It even sent you through the tunnel if you put both ends of the ferry route in an itinerary. I tried the waypoint on the dotted line in mid channel. And I got three crossings too!

Arguably this makes sense from a mapping point of view since the Chunnel is the only physical connection via vehicle across the channel. But it should have been addressed as a practical problem for users by now as there is a post about this every 6 months in every forum. It would be good if the system asked you if you wish to travel by ferry or tunnel or bridge or whatever the options are.

Furthermore, I keep seeing items which would be useful in the LIVE versions. e.g. if you were planning a route it could give you prices for the options by pulling them down from a database somewhere. Lets face it, the choice made is based on speed and price so if you had both you could decide. Might be a bit messy as part of the Tom Tom interface but could be an evolution for preplanning using Home. I posted a similar one about tolls charges and giving real-time calculations about costs en route. But since I don't have access to these services on my 720 it's simply a pipe dream for me.
