Now that the iPhone 3g has A2DP profiles is it possible to connect the iPhone to the x40 range and listen / control the iPhone using the TomTom.

Put simply replace the iPod cable with bluetooth A2DP profiles.

Nope, A2DP is the profile the TomTom or the iPhone (post OS3) will use to OUTPUT sounds, so you cannot use the A2DP to port the music via Bluetooth from an iPhone to a TomTom it simply won't work.

As for controlling the iPhone music from the TomTom via Bluetooth this isn't possible as the TomTom doesn't support the AVRCP Bluetooth protcol so the cable that doesn't charge the Fone is still needed - Mike

Appreciate the reply and you obviously know a lot more about BT than me, but this is my simple view of things:

A2DP enables stereo music transfer to headphones, so based on this wouldn't this work:

iPhone ------- A2DP ------- TomTom

The TomTom unit appears and functions as a BT enabled stereo headphones.

I'm aware that this does not exist yet but technically it should work and could possibly be added with a future firmware update?
