|
|
Just been browsing another forum ( canoeing ) and someone was asking about the waterproofness of the Active10,this was the reply from Satmap:-
Hello,
Thanks you for your email, yes our unit is weather proof, so this can be used out in the rain /snow and can be recovered if dropped in a puddle or wet mud.
I would not recommended fully submerging the Active 10 – however we have developed a rubber case that completely surrounds the Active 10 making it fully submergible and more robust that ever.
This has not made it into production as of yet but expect an email newsletter about this in a few months letting you know where you can get your hands on one.
Kind Regards
Mark
I have not heard of this previously.
The posting was dated in February this year so should be out shortly.

Definitely interesting. They say - can be used in the rain - correct. But I speak from several experiences - a day on a bicycle, in driving rain, and the units very definitely take in water. They may be splash proof, but waterproof, they ain't,

I usually use an Aquapac when walking but of course this is no use when attaching it to the cycle mount.
I haven't used it on the bike in rain yet.I hope when this protective cover appears that you are able to use the bike mount back with it.

I've solved the problem using an Ortleib clear document case, the one slightly larger than the A10, and putting a slit in it on the back, so the protruding bit on the back of the A10 sticks out through it, and thus will click into the bike mount. Thus the A10 is protected from getting wet at all. Works very well, and the Ortleib puches are clear enough not to affect visibility of the screen, and flexible enough so you can press the buttons. Works well - but I have to say, shouldn't be necessary on £300 worth of kit advertised as waterproof.

Rick,
Thanks for that tip.
I have one of those document cases that I use for well...........documents.
Just tried the Active10 in it and it is actually better than the Aquapac in the sense that the "rubber" isn't so thick so the joystick is easier to move and the clear bit that covers the screen is far clearer than the Aquapac which is rather opaque.
I think I will e-mail Satmap and see when this case is due out if not for a while I may invest in another Ortlieb they aren't that expensive.

Just had a reply from Satmap ( wow that was quick ) regarding the rubber case.
Hi Ian
This is currently being developed but is still in the early stages of
production so we don't have a definite time scale.
I would predict the next 4-6months
