On my last visit to Florida, (Kissimmee area) I regular passed about 12 locations with police officers who had mobile speed cameras, are these in the database, or is it worth me noting, the locations to feed into the data base. I have been a regular to this part of florida for 15 years (villa owner) and have never seen speed cameras used like this, could be a revenue raising measure |

It is always useful to record mobile camera positions, when you see them in use.
You should be able to check the positions on the camera map. Just type Kissimmee into the "Find a location:" box. I had a random scan around, and didn't see any recorded, but I don't know the area, or where to look!
Take your satnav with you this year, and record the cameras when you see them! Even if they are already on the map, it will help to confirm the locations. _________________ Jock

I have scouted out the Fixed cameras in the area, but only seen a couple of cops with speed gun in the months that I have been over there. That is in the db. It is always worth putting in as they often use the same spots. _________________ Mike Barrett

Jock—Thanks to the link to the maps, I also typed in Kissimmee, and on the map that appeared there was a speed camera on Hwy 192 and John young Parkway in a blue bubble, what does this mean? I pass this junction nearly everyday and have never noticed any type of fixed camera.
If I see the police in the same location as last October then I will feedback their locations.
Will be out in Florida in May , and will take my GPS unit , never taken it before because I know the area so well. I am also going to buy some cheap American units , ( seen some for $79 ) so that I can program some point of interests etc, and then supply them free to my guests in the villa.
thanks

The Speed camera in the blue bubble is the cursor, or the point where the co-ordinated will be taken from the map.
The cameras on John Young and Central Florida are Red Light cams on all four roads of the intersection.
I cant see anything on the 192, but there is a mobile on the I4 just south of the intersection with the 417. _________________ Mike Barrett

I have just feedback two mobile camera positions . Police were out of the cars.
I also saw 4 police cars , in a static position but the police officer was in the car. Not sure if you want these positions? These were seen in the same position on several days.
On one of the locations I feedback , I saw the police officer there several times, I stopped and spoke to him, he told me because the county of Osceola raises its income from the value of properties, and because of the collapse of property values( Less tax revenue) , they are trying to raise money any way they can, ie more speed traps.
One more question, I feedback using the google earth coordinates, I have the exact coordinates in my Tomtom, could not find how to type these in.

You can type the coordinates from the Tomtom into the "Find a location" box on the map page.
If your coordinates were Latitude: N:28.31090 W81.48010 (a rough centre of Kissimee?) then they need to be entered into the box in this format: 28.31090, -81.48010 (note the minus sign for "South" or "West".
That should centre the map on those exact coordinates.
If you need to adjust them slightly, drag the map around until the blue cursor is where you want it and then click on "Accept this location!" to update the figures in the boxes below it. |

With all of you making a trip to Florida, we should make plans to "meet and greet" over a pint or two. I'm very close to the Kissimmee area _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

I was out there for 6 months learning to fly little aeroplanes at Kissimmee airport last year. Going back out there for a family wedding in August, so any camera locations out there I should manage to get verified! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE
